Shane Pecore wins first DIRTcar Sportsman Series at Autodrome Drummond

Pecore wrestles the lead from Sportsman standout Brad Rouse

DRUMMOND, QUEBEC – Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014 – Martin Bélanger, DIRTcar Correspondent – A hot and humid Tuesday greeted DIRTcar Sportsman Series driver to Autodrome Drummond for round 4 of the Series as a fine field gathered for the 50-lap event. Shane Pecore collected his first win on the DIRTcar Sportsman tour in an eventful race.

Yves Leveille and Brad Rouse were on the front row of the 30-car field that took the initial green. Defending Series champion Rouse took first over Leveille and Shane Pecore held the third spot.

Rouse had built a small margin over Leveillee with 10 laps down as the leaders reached slower cars. Pecore was able to pass Leveillee for second as Martin Pelletier cracked the top 5 just before the first caution occurred on lap 20 for Maxime Blain.

On the restart, Mathieu Desjardins had a great start and passed 3 cars moving up to third and Shane Pecore got the lead just before Andy Brulotte stopped in the infield and the yellow lights came out on lap 22.

When the green was waved, Pecore stayed in front over Rouse, Desjardins, Leveille and Mike Maresca as this front five reached halfway point in that order. Kaven Poliquin brought the third caution on the 26th lap.

The order remained unchanged as the green lights were back. Desjardins lost a wheel in front of the grandstand and lost his valuable third place with 15 laps to go.

On the green, several leaders including current Series points leader Martin Pelletier, Mike Maresca, Joey Ladouceur and Yves Leveillee were involved in a collision that brought the red flag.

Pecore took to the lead on the restart with Etienne Cournoyer challenging Rouse for second spot and Jonathan Desilets and Corey Wheeler composing the new top 5 with 10 laps to go.

The No. 0 car got a sizeable lead over and never looked back to get his win ever victory on the DIRTcar Sportsman Series.

“The car was great,” Pecore said. “I have to thank my whole team on giving me a great machine and winning in Drummond is good as we are aiming for the DIRTcar Series.”

Brad Rouse was pleased with a second-place finish.

“It is always fun coming up here,” Rouse said. “I enjoy the tracks and the fans, even though it’s a long haul to get here.”

Local runner Jonathan Desilets finished third.

“Finishing this high with the kind of competition tonight is really special,” Desilets said. “We are trying hard to get better each week.”

The DIRTcar Sportsman Series will take a 5-week break and will be back in action for a 3-race western swing in early September at Ramsomville, Merrittville and Humberstone Speedways.
