{"id":699,"date":"2020-08-02T22:43:43","date_gmt":"2020-08-02T22:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dirtcar.com\/esports\/?p=699"},"modified":"2021-11-18T16:37:44","modified_gmt":"2021-11-18T16:37:44","slug":"morgan-wins-street-stock-showdown-at-usa-intl-makes-eighth-winner-in-nine-races","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dirtcar.com\/esports\/2020\/08\/02\/morgan-wins-street-stock-showdown-at-usa-intl-makes-eighth-winner-in-nine-races\/","title":{"rendered":"Morgan Wins Street Stock Showdown at USA Int\u2019l, Makes Eighth Winner in Nine Races"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAKELAND, FL \u2013\u00a0Nine races, eight different winners.<\/p>\n<p>Race #9 of the DIRTcar eSports league on <a href=\"http:\/\/iracing.com\" target=\"_blank\">iRacing<\/a> kicked off Wednesday night from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iracing.com\/tracks\/dirt-usa-speedway\/\" target=\"_blank\">USA International Speedway<\/a> with a strong field of 74 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iracing.com\/cars\/dirt-street-stock\/\" target=\"_blank\">DIRTcar Street Stocks<\/a> \u2013\u00a0the second-highest car count since <a href=\"https:\/\/dirtcar.com\/esports\/2020\/04\/26\/virtually-perfect-huge-field-tackles-inaugural-weekly-dirtcar-esports-showdown\/\" target=\"_blank\">the league\u2019s inception back in April<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With $250 on the line and a field of 23 other hungry drivers behind him, Greenville, SC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/members.iracing.com\/membersite\/member\/CareerStats.do?custid=145156\" target=\"_blank\">Devin Morgan<\/a> never cracked once under the pressure in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chevrolet.com\/performance-parts\" target=\"_blank\">Chevy Performance<\/a> Final Feature, leading all but one circuit in the 30-lap contest for the first DIRTcar eSports victory of his iRacing career.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DIRTcar eSports Street Stocks USA International Speedway July 29th, 2020 | HIGHLIGHTS\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LeCvJmQdEaY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was feeling the pressure there,\u201d Morgan told DIRTcar eSports announcer <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Chase_Raudman2\" target=\"_blank\">Chase Raudman<\/a> in his DIRTVision post-race interview. \u201cIt\u2019s been forever since I\u2019ve ran a Street Stock race, and I was really surprised to even be as quick as I was.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Morgan and 73 of his fellow virtual competitors were first split up into two preliminary events to kick off the night\u2019s racing action. The top 12 finishers from each of the preliminary Features were then called back to answer the bell for the Chevy Performance Final and a chance at the $250 top prize.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_701\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-701\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-701\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/08\/30162733\/StreetStock_Action2-300x169.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/08\/30162733\/StreetStock_Action2-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/08\/30162733\/StreetStock_Action2-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/cdn.dirtcar.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/08\/30162733\/StreetStock_Action2.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-701\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chris Owens Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Setting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cometic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cometic Gaskets<\/a> Quick Time in <a href=\"https:\/\/racingelectronics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Racing Electronics<\/a> Qualifying to earn the pole for the Final Feature of the night, Morgan jumped out to the lead right away and immediately went on the defensive with the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/members.iracing.com\/membersite\/member\/CareerStats.do?custid=275393\" target=\"_blank\">Barrett Bishop<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/members.iracing.com\/membersite\/member\/CareerStats.do?custid=246298\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Bergeron<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/members.iracing.com\/membersite\/member\/CareerStats.do?custid=350039\" target=\"_blank\">Braden Johnson<\/a> knocking on the door behind him.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson got a big run to Morgan\u2019s outside on Lap 3 and crossed the stripe ahead of him, scoring the only lap throughout the rest of the race not led by Morgan\u2019s #112. Inaugural DIRTcar eSports winner Evan Seay soon made a late-race push for a spot on the podium but got into Johnson while attempting a pass to his inside with seven laps remaining and gave up wholesale track position, allowing Bishop to scoot on by with the final podium spot.<\/p>\n<p>In their valiant efforts to catch race leader Morgan, Johnson and Bishop were handed a ripe opportunity to make a move in the closing laps. Morgan was having trouble clearing the lapped car of Trent Beaver and was being held up a bit on the bottom, allowing Johnson and Bishop to close the gap.<\/p>\n<p>But in the end, they couldn\u2019t get close enough to make the pass. It probably would have been a good race with another lap or two,\u201d Morgan said.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop crossed the line in second with <a href=\"https:\/\/members.iracing.com\/membersite\/member\/CareerStats.do?custid=301389\" target=\"_blank\">DJ Kilanowski<\/a> nipping Johnson at the line for third \u2013 both career bests for those drivers with the DIRTcar eSports league.
