Coming to a climax with the headline ‘Hall of Fame Classic 100’ on May 30, the Memorial Day Weekend Super DIRTcar Series showdown on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds is just 2 days away. The historic Weedsport, New York speedway comes to life for the traditional holiday special with the 100-lap Big-Block Modified winner on Sunday waiting to take home a cool $6,000 top prize.

Helping commemorate the past two decades of Hall of Fame happenings at the home of DIRTcar Northeast, highlights from many of the past induction days will be recalled in anticipation of the first big holiday racing event of the season.

Defending Hall of Fame Classic champ Billy Decker heads a star-studded field of future Hall of Famers in the first big show of the season at The Port. From the inception of the event in 1992, victory lane has been crowded with some of the most prominent racers and polished race cars in the business, providing fans of today with a sneak preview of what tomorrow may bring within the HoF museum confines. Joining Decker on the list of repeat winners in this coveted event are active all-stars Danny Johnson (4), Gary Tomkins (2) and Alan Johnson (2), plus current World of Outlaws Series contenders Tim McCreadie (2) and Tim Fuller (2). Inaugural titlist Steve Paine and Dave Lape are the only April winners, while Dale Planck took top honors in 2008, the last time it was showcased as part of the Super DIRTcar Series. Reigning overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar points king and all-time series race winner Brett Hearn remains in search of his first HoF trophy as do track regulars Matt Sheppard and Jimmy Phelps, who both placed just below Hearn in the final ’09 standings.

Plenty of excitement is guaranteed to be generated as today’s top stars mix with some of the most legendary wheelmen, including charter member Hall of Famers Billy Wimble, Dutch Hoag and Billy Rafter, plus ‘Irish’ Jack Murphy, Dave Lape, Guy ‘Shorty’ Robinson and Carl Nagel. This one-of-a-kind card is certain to provide an unforgettable experience for every fan taking in Hall of Fame Day at the home of DIRTcar Northeast. And even more memories are ready to come to life when the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club turns trackside for a nostalgic look back at some of the old coupes and coaches that serve to showcase the heroes of yesterday to our younger fans today.
