WoO Sprints - Jeremiah Fish Photo

Weedsport, NY — Aug. 19, 2010 — By Chris Dolack, World Racing Group VP Public Relations
*Jeremiah Fish Photo

Big crowds and big events are part of the storied history at Rolling Wheels Raceway, but last year when the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series invaded “The Fast Track” during Super DIRT Week there wasn’t a seat left to be found as The Greatest Show on Dirt returned to New York for The Greatest Week on Dirt.

There was a buzz in the air from the New York State Fairgrounds to Rolling Wheels’ Elbridge home. Steve Kinser was back in New York in October and he brought the Outlaws with him for the first time since 1995. If you missed it, you missed a special night. Tim Shaffer, an all-around good guy who last weekend won the prestigious Knoxville Nationals, held off Donny Schatz, Kinser, Joey Saldana and Jason Meyers for his first New Yorker 25 victory in eight tries.

As emotional as that night was, the intensity when the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars return during this year’s Super DIRT Week on Saturday, Oct. 9, will be much higher. The championship battle heading toward the season-ending World Finals is incredibly tight. Less than 50 points separates the top three racers, and the events leading up to Super DIRT Week can tighten that race even more.

Plus, the day before the New Yorker, a select group of Outlaws will perform the traditional four-wide parade lap at the New York State Fairgrounds’ Moody Mile for the first time since the memorable high-speed races between Kinser, Dave Blaney, Jac Haudenschild and Sammy Swindell in the mid-1990s.

Joining the Outlaws at Rolling Wheels and bringing the night to blockbuster proportions will be a special event for the DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds. Every Big-Block racer dreams of taking the green flag in the Syracuse 200. By Oct. 9, every position in the field will be filled — except for one. Racing with the Outlaws that Saturday night will be Big-Block drivers making one final attempt at October glory in the “Win and You’re In” feature event. The name says it all. Put your car in Victory Lane on Saturday night and you’re guaranteed the final spot in the 39th Syracuse 200 at 2 p.m. on Sunday. You can bet the battle to win will be edge-of-your-seat exciting.

The Saturday night Super DIRT Week events at Rolling Wheels were reborn last year. They will be even bigger this year. Don’t let your friends tell you what you missed, you have to be there. Seats are already going quick. Save your spot to see history by clicking the ticket button at www.superdirtweekonline.com or by calling 315-834-6606.
