Granby, QUE — June 25, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Northeast PR Director The Castleton, N.Y. veteran was slowed only once, yet that came long after he had taken his fourth career checkered flag on tour and it proved to be the most costly. In the customary post-race inspection an illegal modification to the MSD rev box limiter was found under the hood of his potent Lazzaro’s Auto Body no. 7 Madsen Overhead Door/Pontiac Grand Prix machine to bring a quick halt to any preconceived victory lane celebration.

Yetman’s short-lived satisfaction suddenly turned into frustration as he lost all his earnings and the $1,000 first-place prize that compounded the unexpected infraction.

“I should have known something was up when I got such a good deal,” uttered a dismayed Yetman after learning of the official decision to levy the penalties. “I’ve got another one just like it in the truck, it’s probably the same way. Just a bad situation coming all this way and having this happen.”

Jackson held on to salvage second-place some 10 car-lengths behind, with Frenchman Jocelyn Roy, Dave Bissonnette and Chip Smith filling out the front-five in the superbly run 27-minute main event slowed by just three yellow flags.

Another banner field of Pro Stockers assembled for round number two of the 2010 championship series, as 33 drivers hauled in from the U.S. and Ontario to take on the best from Quebec on their home soil. After Roy posted fast time, Americans Yetman and Smith joined Canadian chauffeur Bissonnette in claiming heat wins before Roy and Quebecois Stephane Lemire drew front row positions to start the 50-lap finale.

Roy’s no. 05 Remorcage 05-Lettrage Lucy/Chevrolet Monte Carlo was quickest out of the gate with Jackson bolting from his fourth-place start to take control of second. Corey Wheeler, Yetman and Lemire faded back in the early going as the leaders moved in on traffic after just nine laps around the spacious half-miler,

After more than a dozen circuits of shadowing the pole-sitter, Jackson used lapped cars to his advantage as he swept past Roy high of turn three to forge the first lead change on lap 16. Roy quickly rebounded, ducking under Jackson’s Adams Marina no. 18 Keegan Smoke Shop/Chevy Monte Carlo as traffic forced the leader high navigating turns one and two. Just four laps later, Jackson executed a precision high-low maneuver as slid high exiting turn three then shot low into four to regain the top spot on lap 22.

Just shy of the halfway point, series opening race winner Joey Ladouceur suffered a flat left-front tire to bring out the first caution period and send his Coffrage 20-20 no. 92 Minimax Express/Cadillac STS/Stinger X entry to the rear after putting on a new shoe. A second yellow flag unfurled the following circuit when Serge Lemieux spun directly under the starter’s stand, and with 25 laps lighting up the back stretch scoreboard Jackson, Roy, Yetman, Wheeler and Lemire retained their prominent places at the head of the pack.

Weekly Granby contender Guy Viens slowed into the pits on lap 31 to incur the third and final slowdown, once again providing Jackson an open track ahead on the ensuing restart. And that was the same view that Yetman had after displacing Roy coming out of the second corner in a three-wide thrust and emerging as the new leader sticking low under Jackson rounding turn four.

With the final 20 circuits running non-stop, Yetman found success low in the corners and pulled away at will as laps continued to click off on the leader board. And that’s the way it would stay, with the three-time Lebanon Valley Speedway tour winner ultimately being credited with the victory despite the late night tear-down that hung a cloud over the pits.

“I tried everything I could to keep up, (Rob) was just too fast tonight,” remarked runner-up Jackson, who climbed to the top of the early season Mr. DIRTcar points chart after opening the series with a third-place tally at Cornwall (ON) Motor Speedway. “After what happened, this really feels like a win for us.”

“My goal coming in was just to stay up with the leaders, wait for the end and try to save the tires. The track was really bad for us in heats, being so slippery we had such a bad push. Just no traction to find anywhere. We made a ton of changes before the feature, gears twice and multiple shock changes, they certainly worked out for us at the end,” added Jackson, with four tour triumphs taken at Brewerton Speedway, Can-Am Motorsports Park, Rolling Wheels Raceway and the NYS Fairgrounds in the Super DIRT Week full-fender finale.

The 2010 Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series point chasers have the month of July to regroup before returning to action at Mohawk Int’l Raceway on August 21. Pete Stefanski rallied last season to score the victory at the completely refurbished 4/10-miler that recently hosted its first Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block event in 15 years.

Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Championship Series Race #2 – Autodrome Granby, June 25, 2010 ‘Castrol 50’ Event Summary QUALIFYING Heat Races (8 laps, all transfer to feature; top 4 redraw) Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Championship Series Point Standings (June 25) DIRTcar Pro Stock Entries – June 25 (33) UPCOMING EVENTS 2010 Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Championship Series Schedule DIRTcar Racing Northeast main office is located in Weedsport, New York on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds, home of DIRTcar All-Star Weekend in July.
