Barberville,FL — Jan. 29, 2009 — Kerry Madsen will always remember the 2007 Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH at Volusia Speedway Park. It marked the beginning of his first full World of Outlaws tour, and it was the site of his first World of Outlaws A-Feature victory on Feb. 10, only days before long-time team owner Dave Helm passed away.

It took a couple of starts, but Madsen powered his way to the high side of Turn 1 and led the opening circuit. Danny Lasoski found the high side of the track to his liking and drove around Madsen for the lead on Lap 2. Lasoski, the 2001 World of Outlaws champion, led four laps before Madsen reclaimed the point. Lasoski battled back and made a late charge, turning the fastest lap of the race on the 24th circuit. But Madsen was able to hang on at the checkered flag for his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory.

Madsen became just the second Australian-born driver to win a World of Outlaws feature event along with Brooke Tatnell.

“I’ve been trying to win one of these for a while,” Madsen said that night. “I’ve won races in Australia and some in New Zealand and it’s great to finally get one in America.
