7-15-2024 2024 Rule Additions/Updates (Weight, Nerf & Bumpers, Engine Starting)

Recently, we and other sprint car racing organizations/tracks, have experienced some safety issues concerning bolt-on weight and the unauthorized push-starting of race cars.  After conferring and coordinating with others in the sprint car industry the below rules and updates have been created in an effort to insure a safe as possible environment for all.  For clarity purposes the new rule additions and changes are in bold type.  Everyone’s cooperation in adhering to these rules is appreciated.

2024 Rules Bulletin Additions/Updates

Due to safety concerns the following rule additions, changes and updates are effective immediately.

Chapter 3:

Section 6, B.

Additional bolt-on weight will be permitted. Weight pieces must be mounted and fastened to the frame and/or chassis in a secure manner. Weight pieces weighing 15 lbs. or less must be bolted using at least one 3/8” diameter grade 8 or better bolt minimum. Weight pieces weighing more than 15 lbs. must be bolted using at least two 3/8” diameter grade 8 or better bolts minimum. All additional bolt-on weight must be mounted and fastened in the area between the bottom frame rails and axles and no higher than the upper rails. All bolt-on weight must be painted white. All bolt-on weight and mounting is subject to World of Outlaws Officials approval. Loss of any bolt-on weight during competition shall result in disqualification from that event. Failure to follow any of the above restrictions and procedures may result in fines, disqualification and/or other penalties.  

 

Section 5, F. F. Titanium front axles, nerf bars and bumpers will not be permitted. Nerf bars and bumpers must be made from magnetic steel and/or stainless-steel tubing and securely bolted to the chassis. Left and Right Nerf bars must attach to the chassis at three points.  The nerf bars must not extend past the outside edge of the tires. The bumpers must be a minimum of 1.00” in diameter tubing and have a minimum material thickness of .065 inches or a maximum material thickness of .095. Tubing may not be filled with the purpose to add weight to the chassis.

 

Chapter 2, Section 1, E. g.

g. Pushing a car for the purpose of starting the engine without prior approval and supervision of World of Outlaws Officials is prohibited and subject to fines, disqualification and/or other penalties.
