Weedsport, NY — March 4, 2010 — By Tom Skibinski, Super DIRTcar Series PR Director
Early Spring weather conditions always pose a concern for Northeastern track operators as well as the fans and racers making their annual plans.
Record snowfall in Central New York and surrounding areas forced Fulton Speedway officials to re-evaluate their 2010 season-opening weekend, and after receiving full company support, have cancelled the Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship event scheduled on Friday, April 9.
“Right now we’ll probably need a lot of good days just to get in that first show,” lamented Fulton Speedway promoter Harvey Fink, who also guides race day operations throughout the season at sister track Brewerton Speedway. “Our biggest priority is getting the facility ready for when the Big-Blocks come in. There’s always a lot of excitement and activity on opening day, and with a series event leading off, everything is magnified even more.”
The April 10 Super DIRTcar Series ‘VP Racing Fuels Spring Fever 100’ for Big-Block Modifieds at Fulton remains on course without a rain date. Can-Am Motorsports Park is now slated to host the 358-Mod tour lid-lifter on April 17, with the popular LaFargeville, N.Y. layout also staging a Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman race that same Saturday.
“We’ll continue to give our tracks full cooperation in situations like this, especially considering the circumstances when track preparation is paramount,” remarked DIRTcar Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Joe Skotnicki. “Presentation of a successful show is important for everyone involved. Making the announcement now to cancel this event allows plenty of time to get the word out to both fans and racers who can adjust their own plans accordingly.”
The Super DIRTcar Series opener is set for Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway on March 27, followed by Fulton two weeks later. New York State ovals Black Rock Speedway (Sportsman, April 10) and Can-Am (Pro Stock, April 18) help kick off the remaining Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar point chases as DIRTcar’s 35th successive season gets underway.
