Point leader Erick Rudolph hopes to keep hold of his advantage over Mario Clair as series heats up
CORNWALL, ONTARIO – With the summer winding down, the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series is just heating up a 125-lap feature race Sunday, Aug. 31, at Cornwall Motor Speedway. The Jiffy Auto Service Triple Crown Finals for the Canadian Nationals Gaetan’s Chip Stand Series features a special $5,000-to-win race for the best small-block competitors in the region.
Defending series champion and current point leader for the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series Erick Rudolph says he is ready to defend his position at Cornwall‘s tough quarter-mile.
“We know exactly what we’re going to try there setup-wise,” said the Ransomville, N.Y., driver about Cornwall‘s Canadian Nationals finale. “For the size of the track there, you get up to some pretty good speeds, so I’m looking forward to it. It’s always a racy track.”
Quebec driver Mario Clair and Ontario’s Pete Bicknell are second and third, respectively, in DIRTcar 358-Modified Series point standings, both within 100 points of leader Rudolph. However, Rudolph is ready to take on Canada’s best, and hopes his recent success in the Super DIRTcar Big Block Modified Series, including a July win at Autodrome Drummond, translates to a strong finish at Cornwall.
“We’re running strong, we’re doing the things we should do,” Rudolph said. “We’ll go there and hopefully put some distance between first and second in points, and hopefully we’ll sneak away with the win.”
