A pair of highly anticipated returns are up next for the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series, as the top Small Block drivers in the Northeast prepare for back-to-back nights in two different countries.

First, the Series visits Cornwall Motor Speedway on Wednesday, July 16, for the Summer Showdown 100. A $10,000 (CAN) prize is on the line in a 100-lap battle, pitting Series stars against some of the top Canadian drivers.

Then, drivers return to the United States for a stop at Mohawk International Raceway on Thursday, July 17, for the Ovide Doiron Memorial. The 60-lap Feature will pay a winner’s share of $5,000.

Here’s a look at What to Watch for at Cornwall and Mohawk:

Chasing History: After a dominant win at Weedsport Speedway last week, Mat Williamson is on a path toward his second Series title with a 12-point lead over Mike Mahaney.

The St. Catharines, ON, driver heads into Cornwall winning three of the five Series Features in 2025. The last time he won three times in a season, he went on to win the championship.

“Money Mat” will aim to continue that momentum at two tracks he’s been successful at throughout his career. Williamson has a Series victory at both tracks, earning them on back-to-back nights in July 2019.

Heading to Canada: Wednesday’s trip to Cornwall will be the first of two stops in Canada during the 2025 season. The second will be championship night at Brockville Ontario Speedway during the Fall Nationals on Saturday, October 18.

One driver excited to return to his home country is defending Series champion Felix Roy. The Napierville, QC driver has four top fives and five top 10s this season, including back-to-back podium finishes. However, he trails Williamson by 24 points and Mahaney by 12 points for second.

Cornwall is one of Roy’s best chances on the schedule to score his first Series victory, a place where he won three five-figure payday events in 2023.

Keeping Pace with the 6: Both Mahaney and Lance Willix each earned top 10 finishes at Weedsport. However, they’re both losing ground to Williamson in the fight for the title.

Lance Willix

The good news for Willix is that both races come at tracks where he’s reached Victory Lane thus far in 2025. The Theresa, NY driver won at Mohawk earlier this month and at Cornwall in June. Willix is searching for his third Series victory.

Mahaney is also aiming for his third victory after winning at Can-Am earlier this month. His best finish at Cornwall in Series competition came in 2019, when he finished second to Williamson. The Elizabethtown, NY driver’s best Series finish at Mohawk was a sixth, also in 2019.

Stars on the St. Lawrence: A trip to Cornwall and Mohawk means the Series full-timers will battle a stout field of drivers who live along the St. Lawrence River in both countries.

Corey Wheeler, from Cornwall, ON, has the most momentum entering the doubleheader after he won at Brockville and Cornwall over the weekend. Wheeler scored his lone Series victory at Brockville in 2023, a track similar in size to Cornwall. His best Series finish at Cornwall is an eighth, while his best at Mohawk is sixth.

Carey Terrance will also be in action at both tracks, aiming for his first Series win since 2018. Like Williamson, the Hogansburg, NY driver has Series wins at both facilities throughout his career, winning at Cornwall in 2009 and 2014, and Mohawk in 2016.

Tim Fuller and Billy Dunn have found more success than any other drivers in Series events at Mohawk in their careers.

Seven of Dunn’s 12 Series wins have come at the Akwesasne, NY track, and he enters Thursday with momentum after winning Can-Am Speedway’s 900th Modified Feature last Friday. The Watertown, NY driver and 2021 Series champion has finished second in both of his DIRTcar 358 Modified Series starts this season.

Fuller, meanwhile, is a three-time Series winner at the 4/10-mile track but is searching for his first Series win there since 2018. The 2003 Series champion is aiming for his 22nd career Series triumph.
