Weedsport, NY — September 28, 2010 – Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park and DIRTcar Officials have agreed it is in the best interest of both the fans and competitors to cancel the Mr. DIRTcar Series doubleheader for 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified racers scheduled on Wednesday, October 6.
Cancellation of this SDW satellite show will provide fans the opportunity of going directly to the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse to enjoy the Super DIRT Week festivities and tradition of that event while Can-Am officials begin to focus on the 2011 season.
In reaching the decision, track officials took into consideration the existing damage to power lines and power transferring equipment at the facility when Chapman’s Can-Am Motorsports Park was hit by a tornado back in August.
“We’ve discussed the matter, weighed all of our options and feel it is in everyone’s best interest for us to focus on the 2011 season and let our fans and racers travel to Super DIRT Week,” stated Can-Am Motorsports Park owner Tiger Chapman. “We’re still feeling the residual effects of damage from the tornado that hit us over the summer and truly appreciate everyone’s support and dedication during our first season at Can-Am. We’re already looking forward to bringing everyone a great 2011.”
DIRTcar Officials have worked closely with Can-Am regarding this decision and confirmed there will be no event added to replace the original program scheduled on Wed., Oct. 6 at Can-Am during Super DIRT Week XXXIX.
Can-Am’s 2010 race season comes to a close on Sunday, Oct. 3 when SUNY Canton College presents a 4-Hour Endurance Race. The first green flag flies at 1 p.m. and when the checkered flag falls at 5 p.m. the driver that runs the most laps and is on the track will collect a $4,000 winner’s share. Also up for grabs are $1,500 for second-place and $500 for third. Entry forms can be found on www.canammotorsports.com.
“We have no power at the track but we’re still on schedule for this Sunday as no lights are needed to run the afternoon Enduro,” Chapman added. “We had a fire in the main power shack two weeks ago and have lost all power for the racetrack. We’re waiting on National Grid’s approval as we have plans in place for a new power shack to be put up. National Grid is coming in and replacing all the poles and transformers that have been in place for well over 20 years.”
