Rain Washes Out Weekend Of Mr. DIRTcar Championship Activity

Weedsport, NYOctober 25, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director

Without even turning a wheel at Can-Am Motorsports Park over the weekend, Pete Bicknell and Chris Raabe were crowned overall Hoosier Tire Mr. DIRTcar Champions in the 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified divisions.

Current points leader Nathan Peckham will have to wait two more weeks as the forecast of rain arrived right on schedule Saturday to force Black Rock Speedway officials to postpone the 4th Annual Street Stock World 100 presented by Hoosier Racing Tire until Saturday, November 8.

With sunny skies prevailing last Sunday at Orange County Fair Speedway, Billy Decker secured his second career championship in the Advance Auto Parts Big-Block Modified ranks and Pete Stefanski claimed his third straight overall crown in the UMP Pro Stock class.

“With the threat of heavy rain at 100 % we made the decision to cancel the event early today,” said Can-Am Race Director Chip Burdick, who had rescheduled the event from its original Super DIRT Week slot two weeks ago due to rain. “This will save the teams and fans travel expenses and allow them to make other plans in the meantime.”

Burdick confirmed that pit wristbands and general admission rain checks can be sent in the mail for a refund to Chip Burdick at 839 Washington Street, Watertown, New York 13601. For further questions, contact Chip at 315/778-3407.

While the weekend opened Friday with a pleasant fall night of racing at Black Rock featuring Enduro and Ladies 4-Cylinder events, Saturday’s imminent prediction of rain led track officials to follow suit and announce an early cancellation. All classes and starting times listed on October 25 will remain the same when action returns to the Yates County oval on November 8.

The 2008 Mr. DIRTcar crown is the third for 53 year-old Bicknell in a career that has spanned four decades while on the other side of the spectrum it is the first championship for 18 year-old Rabbe in the Sportsman class. Peckham is in line for his first title in the division’s second year of declaring an overall champion, and so are a half-dozen other drivers with 56 points separating the top-seven heading into the fifth and final event.
