Point leader Shane Pecore makes preparations for three big races in as many days
WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – September 2, 2014 – The DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series is about to come to a head, with three high-stakes races in as many days. The series kicks off the three-race western swing Friday, Sept. 5, at Ransomville Speedway, heads to Merrittville Speedway Saturday, Sept. 6, then rounds out the weekend Sunday, Sept. 7, at Humberstone Speedway.
“It can make or break your season having three big races in a row,” said Shane Pecore, who currently leads the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series point standings over Brad Rouse. “We have to take every position we can. We have to get a good time trial run and get in the redraw.”
With the weekend’s races switching from a 100-point to a 150-point spread, the series point standings will be more vulnerable to a shakeup. Rouse, of St. Catharines, Ontario, is just 24 points behind Pecore, of Cornwall, Ontario, and Pecore will be without any home track advantage.
However, Pecore hopes his past success at these tracks, including a third-place finish at Ransomville Speedway earlier this year, will help him cling to the point lead.
“We had a good run at Ransomville the last time we went there, so I’m pretty confident going into this western swing that we’ll come out pretty good,” Pecore said. “Our equipment has always been good, and we’ve got a good team behind us, so we should do fine.”
With a long trek from Cornwall and three days away from his shop, Pecore said preparation will be key this weekend.
“It takes a lot of preparation to go down there, especially driving six to seven hours to get there,” said Pecore. “You have to make sure you have all your spare parts and make sure everything’s in order.”
