Weedsport, NY — October 2, 2008 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing NorthEast PR Director
Winning the Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship is the primary goal of every Small-Block driver that signs up for Super DIRT Week. Troyer inc. is making sure that being fast can be rewarding too.
Troyer continues its support of DIRTcar Racing NorthEast by backing the fastest time trialer awards in the 358-Modified division during Super DIRT Week XXXVII, October 7-12, at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. This year Troyer will present the fastest Small-Block time trialer with a $1,000 check and give the second-fast timer $500 leading up to Saturday’s 150-mile feature race finale.
For many years a pre-race draw among the fastest qualifiers has determined the top starting positions for the 150-lap SDW Championship. 2008 marks the third year the format matches that of the Big-Blocks by locking in the top-six from Thursday Integra Shocks Time Trials to start in the front three rows.
Last year ‘Mr. Small-Block’ and five-time race winner Pete Bicknell stopped the clocks at 30.504 sec. (118.017 mph) while ’06 pole-sitter Pat Ward was second fastest with a single-lap time of 30.566 sec. Bicknell went on to place 18th while Ward (16th) fared little better as both finished one lap down on the final scoresheet. With each running out of fuel in the closing stages, Bicknell did go on to lead the most laps (114) while Ward led a dozen circuits before relinquishing the point to eventual winner Brett Hearn with less than two to go.
