The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, with support from the Weedsport Area Chamber, held its “Business After Five” gathering Wednesday night, March 19 at the Northeast Modified Stock Car Hall of Fame & Classic Car Museum.
“Business After Five” is a monthly Chamber event that provides an opportunity for Chamber Members to network with a wide variety of business people in an informal atmosphere. These events allow the hosts to promote their business, and the guests to have a good time while learning more about the Cayuga County business community.
“We found this to be a great opportunity to not only get in touch with several local businesses in the community, but also to help promote DIRTcar Northeast and auto racing in general,” said Jack Deery, General Manager of the Cayuga County Fairgrounds, site of the Hall of Fame since 1992. “I’d like to thank Mike Oropallo, Terri Bridenbecker, Amy Fuller, and Ginny Kent from the Chamber as well as Hall of Fame Selection Committee member Andy Fusco and Hall of Fame Curator Jack Speno. It was a great event, and we are honored to have hosted it.”
Race cars and Classic Cars provided the backdrop for this month’s meeting, which has proven to be one of the premier networking events in Cayuga County. The historical pieces of machinery in the Hall of Fame/Museum offered those in attendance a trip down memory lane as they toured the facility chatting about local business.
The evening kicked off with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments before Fusco addressed an enthusiastic crowd. Himself a life-long race historian, the Auburn, N.Y. resident touched on the origins of the Hall of Fame and Museum itself and how the sport of Modified-Stock Car racing became so prominent in the Northeast corridor of the United States.
As is common with “Business After Five” events, the night culminated with several door prize drawings. DIRTcar Northeast provided a range of racing memorabilia, from polo shirts to hats as well as admission tickets to a number of events at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y.
