Pauch Wedged Into Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH Lore

2009 DIRTcar NationalsBarberville,FL — Jan. 19, 2009 — The mighty Big-Block Modifieds from the DIRTcar Racing Northeast Region are gearing up to run at Volusia Speedway Park when the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH goes off Feb. 3-14 for the 38th consecutive year at the popular Barberville, Fla., oval.

While 2009 marks the 12th consecutive season the Advance Auto Parts Modifieds have kicked off their campaign in the Sunshine State, 1978 was the first year that teams from the Northeast ventured south to contend for Big-Block bragging rights. In between, many memorable moments have surrounded the annual Modified migration and plenty more are waiting to be exposed in DIRTcar Racing’s own 21st trip to Florida that begins in only 15 days.

Steering the radically-designed ‘wedge’ Modified machine, Billy Pauch captured the 1985 DIRTcar Nationals opener and put the Dave DeBlasio-owned No. 5 Bitner Automotive-backed Big-Block in Victory Lane two more times at Volusia to claim the most lopsided title in tour history by 115 points over runner-up Doug Hoffman. Ending a 20-year Victory Lane drought last winter in Barberville aboard Will Brown’s Bicknell mount, 2008 co-champion Billy ‘The Kid’ scored his only other Big-Block Modified win at VSP in February of ’88.

To see who emerges as a star in the 38th running of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH, make sure to reserve your favorite seats in advance before they’re sold out. With infield trailer heights limited to 9 feet, 6 inches, there are no bad seats in the grandstands at Volusia Speedway Park, which is only 15 miles inland on State Road 40 from Ormond Beach, Fla.

Take advantage of special ‘Super Ticket’ deals that offer seats for all the events contested by each headline division, including six Sprint Car events (All-Star Circuit of Champions on Feb. 3-5, World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on Feb. 6-8); eight nights of UMP DIRTcar Modified action (Feb. 3-10); six-nights of Dirt Late Model racing (Feb. 9-14); the and four Advance Auto Parts DIRTcar big-block Modified dates (Feb. 11-14).

To reserve your seats, follow the ticket links at http://www.volusiaspeedwaypark.com, http://www.dirtcarnationals.com or call the Volusia Speedway Park office at 386-985-4402.
