Hartford, OH March 27, 2013 For the second consecutive week, Sharon Speedway has been forced to cancel Saturday’s (March 30) scheduled open practice and “Springduro 150” Enduro. The relentless unseasonably cold, wet weather hasn’t enabled track crews to be able to get on the 3/8-mile surface to date in addition to the parking areas being unusable left track officials with no choice but to cancel. With opening night up next Saturday (April 6), the “Springduro” 150 will not be rescheduled. Those that pre-entered will be refunded. A possible fall or early winter Enduro may be scheduled.
“Nothing has changed since last Wednesday when we had to postpone the event, in fact with the additional rounds of wet snow and cold conditions things are worse,” explained General Manager Dave Willoughby. “Even though again Saturday’s weather would be conducive to holding the event, there’s no way the track or parking areas would be ready. Hopefully we get some dry and warmer weather so the grounds can dry out and we can kickoff our season next Saturday.”
Speaking of next Saturday, it’ll be the kickoff of another season of “Steel Valley Thunder”. The Saturday, April 6 opener will feature the Governor Insurance Agency DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, Barris Supply RUSH Late Models, Summit Equipment Modifieds, Gibson Insurance Agency Stock Cars, HTMA/Precise Racing Products Econo Mods, and the Deforest Used Parts Mini Stocks. Points will begin. Pits open at 4 p.m. with grandstands at 5 and racing at 7.
Sharon Speedway is owned by the Blaney, Weller, and Kirila Families and is a 3/8-mile dirt track located on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio near the intersection of Routes 7 & 305.
