Super DIRTcar Series invades Fonda Speedway Sunday, Sept. 21

New track promoter Matt DeLorenzo gearing up for Fonda’s season finale

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – Thursday, September 11, 2014 – Big Block Modified driver Matt DeLorenzo spent this summer’s Saturday nights at Fonda Speedway yet he has only raced there four times this season. As the track’s new promoter, DeLorenzo has been keeping himself busy off the track.

“It’s been challenging at times. It’s new to me. I’ve always been on the other side of the fence – the race car driver – and now I’m dealing with both sides of the fence,” said DeLorenzo, who has grown into his new role at the Fonda, N.Y. track. “Now that I’m almost to the end of the season, I’ve got a rhythm going.”

Fonda Speedway concludes its season Sunday, Sept. 21, with a 100-lap feature race for the Super DIRTcar Big Block Modified Series, marking the first series race at Fonda since 2003. DeLorenzo is planning on racing in his track’s season finale, and is looking forward to competing against the region’s best Modified racers.

“There’s going to be a lot of excitement. A lot of fans are going to see a lot of drivers they haven’t seen in a long time at Fonda racing all together,” DeLorenzo said. “I’m looking forward to seeing all the stars of the Super DIRTcar Series race. Billy Decker has been there, and Larry Wight, Matt Sheppard and Jimmy Phelps. They’ve all been there a few times this year, but we haven’t seen all of them there at once.”

Matt Sheppard, of Waterloo, N.Y., leads in Super DIRTcar Series point standings over Billy Decker, of Sidney, N.Y., by a narrow margin of 18 points. Defending series champion Brett Hearn, of Sussex, N.J., sits at third in points and Jimmy Phelps, of Baldwinsville, N.Y., is currently fourth.

Racing is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Fonda Speedway, capping off a full weekend of racing at the track. For more information about the Super DIRTcar Series, visit www.superdirtcarseries.com.
