Coming to a climax with the headline ‘Hall of Fame Classic 100’ on May 30, the Memorial Day Weekend Super DIRTcar Series showdown on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds is just 4 days away. The historic Weedsport, New York speedway comes to life for the traditional holiday special with the 100-lap Big-Block Modified winner on Sunday waiting to take home a cool $6,000 top prize.

Helping commemorate the past two decades of Hall of Fame happenings at the home of DIRTcar Northeast, highlights from many of the past induction days will be recalled in anticipation of the first big holiday racing event of the season.

For the first time ever, the Northeast Modified Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will be open to the public as the popularity of this event has created a demand for direct participation by the fans. The goal of the Hall of Fame remains to both celebrate and preserve the rich heritage of Northeastern dirt track automobile racing through the drivers, speedways, owners, promoters and all those racers that have made invaluable cultural contributions to area motorsports. And it’s the strong fan base in the region that has been the backbone since Cayuga County Fair Speedway first opened in 1955.

Once in the museum confines, visitors will find on display numerous rare Classic Cars & historic race cars —including the controversial black #112 “Batmobile” driven by Gary Balough to the 1980 Schaefer 200— and plenty of racing memorabilia plus a full color racing pictorial exhibit. A feature attraction remains the “Wall of Fame” that highlights every inductee since the HoF was established in 1992, while many glass showcases hold a variety of racing articles, including championship trophies, team jackets, photographs and rare souvenir programs. A special Memorial honoring those individuals who lost their lives in racing sits quietly among exhibits which salute this industry of dirt track racing both past and present. And at the end of the Museum trail awaits the “Jack Burgess Memorial Video Room” while a classic gift shop offers a wide assortment of apparel, souvenirs and limited edition collector items. Admission to the 19th Annual Induction ceremonies is $5 on Sunday with doors first opening at 10am and award presentations beginning at 3pm.
