Sid Harmer Jr. proved Saturday night why he’s one of the toughest competitors to beat when the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series visits Mohawk International Raceway.
The 2026 track champion took advantage of a late restart to inch ahead of Tommy Lizotte in the final corner to earn his second Series victory of the year by 0.227 seconds.
“It’s awesome to cap the year off here at Mohawk with a DIRTcar Pro Stock Series win,” Harmer said. “
Three-time Series champion Jocelyn Roy led the field to the green in the 30-lap Feature, beating reigning champion Pete Stefanski into Turn 1.
Roy, using the outside lane, held off Stefanski’s challenges through the first three laps, before Stefanski came back to take the lead on the inside lane with a strong run on Lap 4. The two veterans traded the lead two more times over the next six circuits. However, two track regulars were charging behind them.
While Stefanski battled with Roy, Harmer ran a half-lane lower down the backstretch, trying to get by the North Tonawanda, NY driver. But as he tried to pass the No. 2, the outside lane opened for Tommy Lizotte, who drove around both Harmer and Stefanski to take second on Lap 13.
Lizotte, from La Pocatiere, QC, needed one more lap to take the lead, but had to step out of his comfort zone to do it. With Roy running his preferred line up top, Lizotte switched lanes in Turn 3, diving to the bottom to take the lead as they completed Lap 14. That put Lizotte into the lead as the race’s first caution fell on Lap 16.
On the restart, Harmer got by Roy for second, and tried to sneak past Lizotte on the bottom through Turns 3 and 4. But Lizotte held him off that time, and for the next 11 laps as he searched for his first career Series victory.
However, a caution for Dakota Sharp on Lap 29 set up a green-white-checkered finish, putting Harmer next to him on the double-file restart.
When the race resumed, Lizotte rolled the outside of the track, keeping the nose of his Pro Stock ahead of Harmer as they battled off Turn 4 to take the white flag. Lizotte continued his momentum through Turns 1 and 2, narrowly staying ahead of the No. 14R. But once they reached Turns 3 and 4, Harmer was ready for one final effort.
Lizotte went a little higher than he had over the past few laps, opening the door for Harmer on the bottom and allowing him to beat Lizotte to the checkered flag by 0.027 seconds to earn $1,500.
“I knew the bottom was pretty good,” Harmer said. “I knew the triple seven was going to take the outside, so I said I was going to put the car down in there, get it to turn, and stay beside him. That’s all I wanted to do. I just came out of (Turn) 4 with the bite and beat him; that’s what we did.”
Lizotte settled for second, earning his second Series runner-up at Mohawk in 2026. Write into it.
“(I needed) a couple more laps, I think,” Lizotte said. “It’s pretty good.”
Series points leader Bastien Caron rounded out the podium ahead of Pete Stefanski, who finished fourth. With that finish, Caron extended his Series points lead to 40 points with three races remaining.
Devon Camenga crossed the line fifth.
