Bruno Richard Takes Exciting DIRTcar Pro Stock Series Win at Glen Ridge

By Dean Reynolds

Even though Bruno Richard calls Gatineau, Quebec home, he has been hitting the road often in 2022 with several visits to the United States. His latest trip Sunday night netted a $1,000 pay check by capturing the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series event at Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.

Defending Glen Ridge champion and current points leader Luke Horning made Richard work for the victory as the two had a fierce battle for the lead, swapping it multiple times throughout the race. Then, with four laps to go, a plot twist. Horning blew a tire.

With Richard again in control, the last four laps went by smooth for his first Series win.

“This means so much, I’m doing a lot of traveling and wanted to do the Series this year,” Richard, the 2020 DIRTcar Pro Stock Rookie of the Year, said proudly. “Now to get a Series win with such a small team. This is special.”

Richard travels in a motorhome with his father wife, and kids.  They are the crew as well.

“This might be my last year also, the kids are getting older and so I wanted to travel as much as I can,” Richard said.

But traveling is also getting results as he has visited Victory Lane many times.

“I’ve learned to slow down and take my finishes as I get them,” he said. “If I finish second, third, 10th it doesn’t matter as long as the car goes on the trailer. But I think with me thinking that way it’s also making me win. We will keep going and hope for more good races.”

Equally excited was Kevin Fetterly Jr., of Brasher Falls, NY, who brought his #57 home in second on the podium.

“Wow! What a race and man this place is so much fun!” he exclaimed as he jumped out of his car. “My car was awesome, and I was just getting better and better each lap. I don’t think I had anything for them (Richard and Horning) but I know I was getting faster.

“After this, I think we will stay on the tour and you know what? I do love running these tour races. You get up on the wheel running with all these guys.”

When it does come to Series races, Manchester, Vermont’s Scott Towslee seems to take it to another gear. A solid third place finish was welcomed.

“I enjoy the traveling and seeing different tracks,” Towslee said. “Yeah, there’s a bunch of travel and all of them are far away but we like going to them. We want to run for the championship so getting as many points is a big key for us. I’m happy, we had a good run.”

Justin White took second at the opening Series race at Can-Am and now he followed that up with a fourth here at Glen Ridge. Can-Am winner Tyler Bushey came home in fifth.  Rounding out the top 10 were Horning, with a four laps dash from the back, overall fast timer in time trials Jay Fitzgerald, 2021 Rookie of the Year Chuck McSpirit, Dave Stickles and Nick Hilt.

Fitzgerald sponsors the Fast Time Award with his Classic Muscle Parts business and he moved his $100 cash award to Horning who was second fastest overall.  Towslee won a free Hoosier tire from Scott Hamlin Racing with Richard Spencer getting a free Hoosier tire that’s awarded at every Series event.
