DIRTcar Racing Northeast Weekly Points Update: June 17

Weedsport, NYJune 17, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

Two-time overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Champion Billy Decker returned to the top of the Super DIRTcar Series standings while second-generation standout Ryan Susice secured his first ever lead on the Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman points chart as the first month of summer continues to heat up on the DIRTcar Northeast circuit.

Decker racked up two more top-five finishes in a pair of 100-lap tour stops at Grandview Speedway (5th) and Orange County Fair Speedway (2nd) to overtake ‘Super Matt’ Sheppard while Susice tallied his second front-five finish at Cornwall Motor Speedway (3rd) to climb past round one winner Steve Gray. Brett Hearn (358-Modified) and Joey Ladouceur (Pro Stock) remain ahead in their respective tour point chases with just one main event run to date.

The DIRTcar Northeast weekly point battles are also going full throttle in all three open-wheel divisions as racers contend every weekend for regional honors.

Touring star Jimmy Phelps once again ranks above Big-Block series stars Sheppard and Decker in DIRTcar Northeast’s Central chase while Jeremiah Shingledecker maintains his stronghold on the Western Region points chart. Out East, Craig Hanson regained his lead over Bobby Varin as the drivers continue to swap spots in the their title bid.

The 358-Modified Northern Region picture remains intact with Tim O’Brien over Matt Billings, although a big 50-lap win by ‘Mr. Small-Block’ Pete Bicknell at Humberstone pushed him past long time leader Chad Brachmann on the Western front.

Leading the entire Northeast with 10 feature wins this season, reigning Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman points king Chris Raabe holds a commanding advantage in the Sportsman Northern division with Susice maintaining an even more comfortable margin in the Western standings. D.J. Brundige once again moved ahead in the East while Gray’s lead in the Central New York bracket has dipped below the 100-point mark midway through June.
