DIRTcar Racing Northeast Weekly Points Update: June 28

Weedsport, NYJune 29, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

The first month of summer comes to a close this week with Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series point leaders on the hot seat in tight touring competition.

Big-Blocker Billy Decker extended his margin between runner-up Matt Sheppard with a sixth straight Top-5 tally at Mohawk Int’l Raceway while Louie Jackson emerged as the new Pro Stock Series frontrunner after his recent success found on the Quebec Tout at autodromes Granby and Drummond. Ryan Susice retained his perch atop the Sportsman points chart after rain postponed Mohawk and so did Brett Hearn as 358-Mod point chasers travel to Autodrome Edelweiss for round two this week.

As the curtain drops on June, DIRTcar Northeast Regional wheelmen continue to jockey for position at their weekend homes in the open-wheel ranks of Big-Block, 358 and Sportsman competition. A reminder that drivers must hold a valid 2010 DIRTcar License, purchased by July 15, or be dropped from all weekly point tabulations.

Currently the Northeast’s hottest chauffeur, touring star Jimmy Phelps increased his leverage over Super DIRTcar Series star ‘Super Matt’ Sheppard in DIRTcar Northeast’s Central chase. Craig Hanson has built up his biggest lead of the season on the East Region battleground while Jeremiah Shingledecker held his post on the Western Region front with Lernerville off and rain forcing postponement at Tri-City.

Retaining his position in the sister DIRTcar 358-Modified division, second-generation driver Tim O’Brien is looking for his first victory of ‘10 in the North Region with veteran Carey Terrance replacing rookie standout Matt Billings in the runner-up slot. Out West, ‘Mr. Small-Block’ Pete Bicknell more than doubled his previous lead over tour regular Chad Brachmann after scoring his 4th feature win at Merrittville.

Tony Farone became the newest Sportsman driver to climb to the top of the Eastern standings, while ‘Teenage Tornado’ Chris Raabe maintained his stronghold with a perfect score of 720 pts on the Northern division chart. Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar title contenders Steve Gray (central) and Ryan Susice (western) set the pace heading into the ‘Fourth of July’ holiday celebration.
