DIRTcar Racing Northeast Weekly Points Update: May 10

Weedsport, NYMay 11, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

Unseasonably cool and wet weather conditions plagued many Northeastern tracks during Mother’s Day Weekend, although those racers able to hit just a handful of shows gained an early season advantage in the DIRTcar Regional point chases.

With Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship trail action picking up in two more weeks, Billy Decker leads the Big-Block Super DIRTcar Series standings through a pair of 100-lap events while Steve Gray tops the Sportsman chart with just one extra-distance tour show in the books.

The Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar Pro Stock Series gets underway at Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway on May 23, followed the next evening by opening-round action in the 358-Modified title hunt at Merrittville (Ont.) Speedway. The 19th Annual Hall of Fame Classic at Cayuga County Fair Speedway will attract the cream of the Big-Block crop on May 30, while leading Sportsman contenders make their way to Cornwall (Ont.) Motor Speedway for round two on June 13.

‘Super Matt’ Sheppard scored his 4th Big-Block victory of the season, winning Friday at Brewerton Speedway to open up a commanding lead in DIRTcar Northeast’s Central Region. Bobby Varin returned to the top of the Eastern points chart as Glen Ridge Motorsports Park also beat the elements on Friday, while Jeremiah Shingledecker used his opening-day feature win at Tri-City (Pa.) Speedway to vault from fifth to first in the Western sector.

Chad Brachmann retained his stronghold in the Western New York 358-Modified Regional points battle as continued cloudbursts washed out Small-Block events slated throughout the Niagara Frontier, while track owner/driver John Lazore took advantage of his Mohawk Int’l Raceway lid-lifter to overtake Tim O’Brien in the Northern standings.

Defending Mr. DIRTcar Chris Raabe padded his Northern division Sportsman points lead after capturing Mohawk’s lid-lifter and Bodie Bellinger advanced to the top in the Eastern ranks as Glen Ridge also beat the rain on Friday. Gray continues to pace the Central Sportsman fields, as does Ryan Susice out West after surviving Humberstone Speedway’s spring chiller on Sunday.
