Marcuccilli, McPherson, Richard claim DIRTcar Northeast titles

7M Cody McPherson

After Bruno Richard claimed his DIRTcar championship at Super DIRT Week, Dave Marcuccilli and Cody McPherson clinched their respective titles at Brockville Ontario Speedway

Three drivers accomplished their dreams with a DIRTcar Northeast Series championship this year.

Dave Marcuccilli, a former DIRTcar Sportsman Series champion, claimed his first DIRTcar 358 Modified Series title, Cody McPherson ended his dream season with the DIRTcar Sportsman Series title and in his final year of racing, Bruno Richard claimed the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series title.

DIRTcar 358 Modified Series

Through a consistent streak of good finishes, Dave Marcuccilli claimed his first DIRTcar 358 Modified Series championship by 28 points over Lance Willix. The Montenzuma, NY drivers adds the accomplishment to his resume alongside his 2017 DIRTcar Sportsman title.

After a 12th-place finish at Brockville Ontario Speedway, he locked up the title, ending the season with three top fives and five top 10s for the Series.

“I am very happy; this was always the goal when I started to run the 358 Series a few years ago,” Marcuccilli said. “To actually get the championship just makes all the time you work at it all worth it. We were very consistent (five top 10s in seven races) and that is key when you try to run these point deals. Yeah, to want to win, but finishing is key.”

DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series

After not being able to compete in the United States due to Covid-19 restrictions the past few years, Cody McPherson made up for lost time this season.

The St. Catharines, ON driver proved himself a force to be reckoned with, capturing the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly championship – picking up 12 wins – and dominating the Chevrolet Performance 75 during the 50th Running of NAPA Super DIRT Week by leading all 75 laps. After a fourth-place finish at Brockville Ontario Speedway last weekend, he secured the Series title, completing the trifecta.

“Oh man, what can you say?” McPherson said. “You have goals, but you just don’t know how they will turn out. We started from the very first race.  We knew what we had to do to get the most points and what races we needed to make this all happen.  It just worked out and thanks to all that helped me as well.  What a year.”

McPherson ended the DIRTcar Sportsman Series championship with a 17-point lead over Zach Sobotka. He also claimed two Series wins, three top fives and six top 10s.

DIRTcar Pro Stock Series

With over twenty years of racing under his belt, Gatineau, QC driver Bruno Richard will be retiring from racing after this season with much to be proud of – four Feature wins, a track championship, the DIRTcar Rookie of the Year title, and two Series titles, all of which were accomplished in three seasons of competing in the DIRTcar Pro Stock Series.

By starting the DIRTcar Pro Stock 50 during the 50th Running of NAPA Super DIRT Week at Oswego Speedway, Richard clinched the 2022 title – 62 points ahead of Luke Horning and 69 points ahead of third-place Justin White. Richard also finished fifth in the prestigious race.

“It feels so great because it was my dream,” Richard said. “We do it this year. We start in April and go day by day. We win everywhere we go. We had a bit of a hard finish the last month. But the car, like I say, is still in one piece, because we are a really small team. So great to get it. It was one of my dreams.”

Richard ended the season for the Series with one win, a Series-high six top fives and seven top 10s.
