Mr. DIRTcar Champ Trail October Events

DIRTcarWeedsport, NYSeptember 30, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

DIRTcar Racing’s 35th consecutive year of sanctioning motorsports events in the Northeast is heading down the stretch as teams strap down for the final bill of high-paying extra-distance Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series races in October.

Nine race dates highlight the final month of the season on the DIRTcar NE circuit for 358-Modified, Sportsman Modified and Pro Stock teams, with the Big-Block schedule extended into November for the World of Outlaws World Finals, Nov. 4-6, at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The SEF Small Engine Fuels 200 Presented by Ferris/Snapper/Simplicity Big-Block Modified Championship during Super DIRT Week XXXIX at the New York State Fairgrounds remains the ‘Super Bowl’ of Modified racing with the winner collecting a $50,000 grand prize in the nation’s premier Big-Block event.

The last full month of tour competition begins at Fulton Speedway. Opening day activity in the 25th Annual SUNY Canton Outlaw 200 Weekend, October 1-2, spotlights the DIRTcar Sportsman title contenders in a 30-lap feature event on Friday before offering valuable ‘show up’ points toward the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship to Big-Block contenders on Saturday.

The 39th edition of Super DIRT Week, Oct. 6-10, is a four-star deal for Northeastern fans and racers, with the fall festival of speed offering four straight days of Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series action for all four divisions at three area tracks. Small-Block stars kick off their three-race stint in successive days at Brewerton Speedway on October 7, continue at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Friday, then conclude Saturday with the big ‘Salute To The Troops’ 150-lapper on the Syracuse Mile. A pair of Sportsman Series events are also on the docket Friday and Saturday while single main events for Big-Block Modifieds and Pro Stocks headline ‘Super Sunday’ in the Salt City.

With just enough time to return home and reload, touring teams head north to contest for bragging rights in round two of the DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals, Oct. 15-17, at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Pro Stock racers end their season Friday, 358-Modifieds close out the year Saturday night while the curtain comes down on the ’10 campaign for Sportsman as they join the Big-Blocks on Sunday.

Overall Hoosier-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar champions are determined by tabulating points earned in the Super DIRTcar Series for Big-Block Modifieds and the Mr. DIRTcar Championship Series for 358-Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock teams, along with bonuses collected at a driver’s respective home track in divisional DIRTcar Regional Racing Series. Those valuable track bonus points will be issued after Labor Day with each licensed track champion receiving 1,000 points down to the 25th-place driver —with at least 6 starts— who earns 900 at his best track during the year.

Championship Series point leaders in the overall title hunts heading into the month of October are Matt Sheppard (BB Mod), Danny O’Brien (358-Mod), Tim Sears Jr. (Spt) and Joey Ladouceur (Pro). Defending Syracuse SEF 200 Champion Sheppard, three-time overall 358-Modified Series runner-up O’Brien and teenage sensation Sears are in search of their first-ever Mr. DIRTcar crowns, while Ladouceur remains in pursuit of a second title during his successful full-fender career.
