Orange County Fair Speedway Pro Stock driver Sean Corr came into Super DIRT Week XXXVII thinking he had a car to contend for the BNC Motorsports 25-lap Pro Stock Championship after putting his Trans Group no. 8c Northeast Fabricators/Pontiac Grand Prix in the fourth starting spot for Sunday’s main. Corr took the lead on the opening lap, a position he would never give up.

The $2,000 win was anything but easy as he staved off race-long pressure from a host of contenders that made the Goshen, New York driver work for his victory.

“I just love coming to this place every year, it’s just so exciting to race at,” said Corr, after securing his20first Super DIRT Week win. “I always look forward to this race every year to race the best.”

On the first attempt to start the BNC title event, a wild melee took place at mid-pack in turn one involving 11 cars. When the dust settled the cars of Denis Gauvreau, Morgan David and Jocelyn Roy had to be taken back to the pits on a wrecker. Everyone else continued.

The second green flag of the original start saw Sean Corr blast around the top-three to be the leader in turn one. Joey Ladouceur, Eric Marin, pole-sitter Pete Stefanski and Tom Kuck followed in Corr’s tire tracks.

With five miles in the record books Corr opened up a 10-car length advantage over Marin who slipped by Ladouceur to take over second. Ladouceur, Kuck and Stefanski were right there to occupy the top running positions.

Two laps later, lap 7, Marin erased the lead Corr had created, drawing right up to the back bumper of the leader. Kuck moved into third and was right there to join the battle for the lead. Former race winner Louie Jackson moved from his 10th starting spot to fourth and would be a factor in the race.

The second yellow of the race came out on lap 10 for a slowing Dion Oakes who was showing smoke that would send him to the pits. When the green flew, Corr maintained his lead and Louie Jackson used the same outside move Corr used to get the lead going from fourth to second as the field entered turn one.

At the halfway point, Corr and Jackson had a two car breakaway to battle for the top spot. Marin, Stefanski and Kuck still occupied top running positions further back.

With Corr and Jackson still playing bumper tag for the lead, positions three through seven got in a line and ran down the top two, setting up a seven-car battle at the front.

On lap 18 Jackson kept bump drafting Corr trying to loosen up the no.8c car and make a move to his inside. It didn’t work as Corr kept control of his car and the lead.

Kevin Arnold came to a stop on lap 20 to slow the field down. Arnold would be towed to the pits to mark an end to his day.

When the green came back out Jackson got a run under Corr as the pair headed to turn one. Corr had enough momentum to hold the top spot although Kuck, Marin and Stefanski were still within striking distance of the top two.

Just when the leaders were setting up for a great finish, the yellow came out again. This time on lap 21 for Nick Stone who slowed and went pit side. Corr got another great restart as he opened up a couple car-lengths lead over Jackson, as Kuck and Marin were putting pressure on Jackson for the runner-up spot.

On lap 24 Brett Martin appeared to have a tire go down, sending him hard into the third turn wall ending his race. This final slowdown set up a simultaneous green/white flag one-lap shootout to the finish.

Jackson could stay with Corr as the two headed down the back straight and in one last attempt for the win he swung high out of turn four trying to get a run on the leader. Instead, Jackson slid in the cinders allowing Marin to slip by and chase Corr across the finish line for second place. Jackson, Stefanski and last year’s winner Don Carlson finished third through fifth. Tom Kuck, Roch Aubin, Bob Waters, Jr., Allen Peters and Hard Charger award winner Nick Hilt, Jr. brought home top-10 finishes.

“Nothing here is ever easy,” Corr remarked. “The car was really tight but totally drivable.” Corr also said the experience he has gotten in a DIRT Pro Stock has helped him land more seat time in 2009 in the ARCA RE-MAX Series.

Maintaining his perfect record of 10 top-five finishes in 10 Pro Stock Series stops, Stefanski officially clinched his third consecutive overall Hoosier Tire Mr. DIRTcar Championship, making him the first driver in the groups 33 years of existence to pull off the feat in any of DIRTcar Racing NorthEast’s five major touring divisions. Heading into the Orange County Fair Speedway finale this coming weekend, Stefanski holds an insurmountable lead over first-year tour follow Carlson, with Denis Gauvreau just on point back in third.
