A return to Canada awaits the DIRTcar Sportsman Series West Region this weekend, with two stops on the Niagara peninsula.

First, the Series returns to Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, ON, on Saturday, June 29, for a 30-lap Feature paying $ 1,300-to-win (CAN).

Then, it visits Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, ON, for a $1,500-to-win (CAN) battle on Sunday, June 30.

Here’s a look at What to Watch For this weekend:

Chasing History: Cody McPherson is undefeated in DIRTcar Sportsman Series competition in 2024, after earning two West Region victories at Ransomville Speedway and Merrittville, along with a Central Series win at Weedsport Speedway.

However, the St. Catharines, ON, driver is chasing more than a regional championship this weekend.

McPherson’s win at Weedsport was his 19th career Series triumph, tying him for most all-time with Brad Rouse. A win this weekend would give him the most wins in the 34-year history of the Series.

A Strong Start: While McPherson swept the West Region’s opening weekend, Adam Leslie also had a strong start.

Leslie finished second at Ransomville and third at Merrittville, putting him in second in the West Region standings entering the weekend—10 points behind McPherson.

He’s also fourth in Merrittville’s track points, scoring five top fives in five starts at the Thorold, ON oval.

Staying Consistent: Brett Senek and Cam Tuttle join McPherson and Leslie as the only drivers to earn two top 10s in the West Region’s opening weekend.

Senek, who’s currently second in Merrittville’s points, finished fifth in both races and is 20 points behind McPherson entering the weekend.

Meanwhile, Tuttle, who earned Quick Time in both region events, finished fourth at Ransomville and seventh at Merrittville.

Senek is aiming for his fourth Series win this weekend while Tuttle is searching for his third.
