Jesse Cotriss claims Sportsman Modified Series win at Ransomville Speedway

Boyd MacTavish, fourth in points, runs in third

RANSOMVILLE, N. Y. – Saturday, September 7, 2013 – Jesse Cotriss, of Akron, N. Y., capped off a great season at Ransomville Speedway with a win in Friday’s DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series win there. He took the lead in lap 12 of the 50-lap feature and held the top spot for the remainder of the race.

Cotriss made his move early in the race, cruising inside then-leader Greg Martin for the lead. He continued to speed ahead, pulling away from the field and establishing some distance from his followers.

Lapped traffic became a factor for leaders toward the half-way point, but Cotriss weaved through lapped cars with Martin in pursuit. A lap-48 caution threatened to challenge Cotriss’s dominance, but the 55c kept his lead at the restart and was at the front of the pack at the checkered flag.

“That’s just my luck,” Contriss said of the late-race caution with just two laps to go. “I thought…this is going to be interesting.”

It may have been interesting, but nothing Cotriss couldn’t handle. He took victory in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series at Ransomville Speedway. Early-race leader Martin stayed strong and claimed second. Boyd MacTavish, currently fourth in series points, took third. Don Spatorico took fourth and Mathieu Desjardins fifth to round out the top-five.

After a standard post-race inspection, the No. 4 of Martin lost all points and money earned for Friday’s  race for being 16 pounds light.

The DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series continues this afternoon with the second of three races this weekend at Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario. The series rounds out the weekend Sunday, Sept. 8, at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario
