The 2010 Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Championship Series schedule is near completion with 13 high-profile race events comprising the current agenda.
The upcoming season marks the 21st straight that an overall points titlist will be recognized in DIRTcar Racing Northeast’s Sportsman division, with Mohawk Int’l Raceway returning to the champ trail for the first time in 16 years.
“There’s been a great amount of interest shown toward this class,” remarked Joe Skotnicki, DIRTcar Racing Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning. “Our goal for 2010 was to trim the number of race dates without cutting back on tracks, giving priority to those that host the division regularly. Only a couple events are still pending so we’ve been fairly successful managing on both fronts.”
From the list of 12 venues slated to stage Sportsman Series point races next season, only Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y. is set to host two following its specials-only format. Doubling up with a pair each last year, Black Rock Speedway will once again lead off tour activity in April while Brockville Ontario Speedway brings the curtain down in October during the 2nd Annual DIRTcar Fall Nationals in the Thousand Islands region of Canada.
Can-Am Motorsports Park (April 17) follows Black Rock with its lone event of ’10 before contending teams make a return visit to the north country at Cornwall Motor Speedway (June 13) and Mohawk (June 23). DIRTcar All-Star Weekend takes center stage when Cayuga County Fair Speedway hosts the lucrative event for a second straight summer on July 17.
Action is hot and heavy after Labor Day when the Niagara Frontier comes alive for three consecutive nights of open-wheel excitement as Ransomville, Merrittville and Humberstone speedways present a trio of 50-lappers the second weekend in September. World Series Weekend at Rolling Wheels closes out the first month of autumn with Sept. 25 saved for the first of two tour stops at the ‘Fast Track.’
Fulton Speedway (Oct. 1) presents its customary title race as teams head down the series homestretch in the final month of competition. Super DIRT Week XXXIX showcases the Sportsman at Rolling Wheels (Oct. 8) and the New York State Fairgrounds’ Moody Mile in Syracuse (Oct. 9) before Brockville attracts the best racers on both sides of the border for the big season-finale on October 16.
