Age is just a number.

At 67 years old, Billy Moyer continued to write his name into the modern history of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals in Tuesday’s season opener at the Brownstown Bullring.

Using his skills of driving through a slick racetrack to his advantage, Moyer celebrated his 101st Feature win, tying Shannon Babb on the list of Hell Tour winners.

Starting on the outside of the front row for the 30-lap Feature, the Batesville, AR driver beat polesitter Mike Harrison and got clear of the No. 33 by the end of the first lap.

While Harrison let Moyer extend the lead to one second by Lap 5, he closed back in on the Longhorn Chassis No. 21 when lap traffic became an added challenge.

Moyer lost the lead on Lap 12 when he got caught in the wrong lane of lapped traffic, and Harrison was able to pounce on the opportunity for the lead.

Harrison held a slight lead over Moyer until a bad exit off of Turn 4 forced him to surrender the lead once more to “Mr. Smooth” on Lap 17.

For the remainder of the Feature, Moyer orchestrated the field of 21 Late Models as he captured his first Summer Nationals victory since 2018 under the twin checkered flags.

“(All the wins) are good, it don’t matter if it’s in your backyard or if it’s the World 100,” Moyer said. “We’ve had such a rough start to the year, we lost our trailer a couple weeks ago, and we’ve been completely rebuilding everything and changed a bunch of stuff to this hot rod.

“I mean, we got it back pretty good now. It kind of feels like the good old days again. I had something underneath me to work with, and I was nervous all night long. The Heat race felt so good that I didn’t want to mess it up, but didn’t want to leave it to free, but this hot rod was good and things worked well tonight.”
