358-Modified Drivers Prepare for “Battle” at Ransomville

Fourth 358-Modified Series Race at set for July 3

RANSOMVILLE, N. Y. – June 26, 2012 – Ransomville Speedway’s third annual Battle at the Border Tuesday, July 3, pits American and Canadian 358-Modified drivers against one another for an international fray of epic proportions.

This year’s Battle at the Border, presented by Waste Management, Labatt, and Gater Racing News, will be bigger and better than before, since, for the first time ever, it is also part of the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series.

Chad Brachmann, the defending 2011 Mighty Taco 358-Modified champion at Ransomville Speedway and the track’s current 358-Modified track point leader, said he thinks the change will attract a larger Canadian crowd than prior Battles at the Border, making for more formidable competition.

“We have a very competitive field with the guys that are here,” Brachmann said. “It’s just going to make it that much harder to pull off a victory there.”

An influx of Canadian drivers will further heighten the intrigue of the 75-lap competition as, in addition to competing for the $5,000 first place award, drivers will be competing for a nationality-based bonus. If a Canadian driver places first, then the top five Canadian drivers win an extra $300, and the same of the top five Americans in the case of an American driver places first.

Brachman, who placed second to Danny Johnson at last year’s Battle at the Border, said the larger field of drivers and the friendly international rivalry will not distract him from his goal.

“It’s just going to be a matter of making all 75 laps,” Brachmann said. “You can start in the back and still win the race.”

Rounding out the night are Original Pizza Logs Sportsman, KI-Po Chevrolet Street stocks, Bobcat of Buffalo Fireballs and a fireworks show.

Gates open at 4:30 p.m. in both the grandstands and pit area, with racing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Free camping is offered on the Speedway grounds.
