Cornwall, ONTAugust 31, 2008 – By Martin Belanger, Cornwall Motor Speedway PR

Cornwall Motor Speedway presented the annual Jiffy Auto Services 100. As usual, a huge car count and one of the best crowds of the year was on hand for this show. It was race #4 for the Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series with the top Small-Block teams chasing a $4,000 top prize in the 100-lap event.

John Lazore and Pete Bicknell led the field of 32 cars to start the Jiffy 100, with Lazore taking the early lead as Bicknell settled into second when Martin Roy passed him as caution came out for Jessica Zemken on lap 2. Roy became the new leader as he went in front of Lazore before that caution.

Roy had a good jump on the restart with a good battle for second between Lazore and Laurent Ladouceur in his #23 car taking second and moving onto the back bumper of Roy. Ladouceur used the inside lane to take the lead on lap 7.

Ladouceur was now in traffic with 10 laps down and Lazore took the opportunity to regain the lead but Ladouceur came charging back again and retook the top spot on lap 11. Roy was now second after passing Lazore when Tommy Flannigan brought out the second caution of the race on lap 14.

Ladouceur stayed in the lead with Danny O’Brien making a great charge as he cracked the top-5 after starting in the 12th spot on the grid with 17 laps down. O’Brien passed Lazore for fourth on lap 19 and Ladouceur moved into heavy traffic with 25 laps in the books.

Roy was waiting for Ladouceur to make an error. O’Brien made an incredible move on the backstretch and went from fourth to first in one jump in turn 3 with 31 laps completed. Todd Burley brought out a caution flag on lap 33 and when the green lights came back on, an accident occurred and Yan Bussière used the towing services.

O’Brien was the leader with Bicknell looking to get third but Roy resisted. O’Brien was back in traffic on lap 43 and Frenchman Pierre Dagenais made a great move from the outside to take third on lap 44. But Bicknell was right with him as was Roy, who was running in the top-5, yet had problems on lap 47. O’Brien remained in front with Bicknell and Ladouceur looking for second and Ladouceur winning the battle with Carey Terrance who ran fifth.

At the halfway point, O’Brien was the leader followed by Ladouceur, Bicknell, Kyle Dingwall and Terrance. On lap 52, Terrance took fourth spot from Dingwall and Lance Willix stopped in turn 4 with 53 laps down. O’Brien was still the leader with Terrance running hard on top and took third as Bicknell dropped to fifth as Dingwall passed him.

Terrance was very strong on the outside as he passed Ladouceur for second on lap 64 and was getting closer to O’Brien. The leaders were now in traffic as they hit the 70-lap mark. Joel Doiron moved into fifth spot after passing Dagenais just before Chris Steele stopped in the middle of the backstretch on lap 74 to force out a yellow flag.

The race resumed with only 17 laps to go and O’Brien had company with Terrance but the ‘Pocket Rocket’ got a comfortable lead. Dagenais and Bicknell were doing battle for the fifth spot as Terrance was getting closer to O’Brien with 10 laps to go.

O’Brien started to use Terrance’s racing line and got a few cars in distance as they were in heavy traffic with only 2 laps to go. O’Brien led the final laps to score this important race win over Kyle Dingwall, Laurent Ladouceur, Pete Bicknell and Pierre Dagenais in the top 5.

“We got the low line working, it has been a long time before we had good run at Cornwall, I am very happy!” remarked an ecstatic O’Brien in victory lane. Dingwall got second as Terrance went too high in the final laps. “We’ll take second, as we got many seconds this year,’’ Dingwall said. Added Ladouceur, who got the same luck as Dingwall. “Third place is really good for us, the car worked really good during the feature. Dagenais, Terrance, Ladouceur, Alex Fortier and Doiron were the 5 heat winners while Dagenais had the fastest clocking in the 358-Modified time trials with a time of 13.002 seconds for an average speed of 69.220mph.

Teams chasing points towards the overall Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series return to action across the border when Brockville Ontario Speedway round number five of the 2008 tour on Saturday, September 6.
