On the heels of WLR Construction Time Trials on Friday afternoon at Orange County Fair Speedway, six qualifying heats added 30 more drivers to the starting grid for Saturday’s 32nd Annual Eastern States 358-Modified Championship.

The eight-lap preliminary events were dominated by front row starters as drivers beginning on the point won the final four qualifiers while those on the outside-pole claimed the opening two heats.

Recently crowned Orange County Big-Block Modified points king David VanHorn Jr. claimed the opener while Middletown mainstay Chris Shultz captured round number two. Outside invaders Andy Bachetti and Pat Ward, and Orange County regulars Kirk Horton and Craig Mitchell also took checkered flags, leaving only the consolation races on Saturday to fill out the 40-car starting line-up.
