Fresh off the biggest win of his young racing career, Ryan Susice isn’t sitting on his current success as the 20-year old star plans a full assault on the 2011 DIRTcar Small-Block circuit, including the overall Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship.

Susice was the winner of the ‘SUNY Canton 30’ Sportsman Championship at the New York State Fairgrounds during Super DIRT Week in October, an event the Ransomville, NY racing star wasn’t even planning on running.

“It didn’t look real good early in that week,” claims Susice, who also finished second in Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series points for the second consecutive year. “We didn’t have the money. We were able to pick up some extra money from my family and friends that allowed us to get a couple new tires. When we qualified third fastest, everything just seemed to click for us.”

The end result for Susice was a trip to victory lane for the first time ever on the famed Syracuse Mile, where he finished third in his first attempt in 2009.

Ryan will run the full 2011 season at his home based Ransomville (NY) Speedway, along with making a full series effort driving for local car owner Jerry Skurski. His plans for Saturday night are expected to be announced soon.

Susice drove in six 358 Modified races for Skurski in 2010 with a 12th-place finish his best at the Alex Friesen Summer Nationals at Ransomville in August.

“I’m really excited about running the 358-Modifieds,” Susice said. “Ransomville has a tough field and the experience will help me get better.”

Ryan’s expectations are not simple. “It would be nice to win. I would like to get a top five in points while getting a Top-10 on the series.”

Susice comes from a familiar racing family. His uncle John drove Late Models in the 1960’s at Ransomville Speedway and his father Roy contended in several divisions on the ridge before retiring in the 1990s.

Ryan has been a winner every year involved in competitive racing, beginning in 1996 and continuing when he moved full-time into stock cars in 2007. He was a five-time go-kart champion and won 70 feature events and was a frequent visitor to race tracks throughout the east. Late in 2006, he drove in a Ransomville Speedway Street Stock event, which propelled the team to purchase a chassis for the 2007 season.

Ryan made much of his rookie campaign in the Street Stocks, winning five times, including the prestigious season-ending King of the Hill 100. He was also the track’s Street Stock champion at the age of 17.

Susice used the 2008 season at Ransomville to learn the Sportsman class and still scored a pair of wins and placed third in points. He got off to a fast start in ‘09 and took home the Ransomville Sportsman season title as well as the Canandaigua (NY) Speedway points crown. Twelve wins and a runner-up in series points capped off a great campaign.

In 2010, Susice captured the Ransomville title again. While the wins weren’t as frequent, his performance in Syracuse easily made up the difference.

In just four years in stock cars, Ryan has registered 25 victories and earned four track championships. He’s also won several local awards and is nearing completion of his criminal justice degree from Niagara County Community College in Western New York.
