Memorial Day Weekend Poses Triple Threat For DIRTcar Big-Block Racers

All Star WeekendWeedsport, NYMay 14, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

Memorial Day Weekend on the DIRTcar Racing Northeast circuit won’t be one to soon forget as three straight nights of high-power open-wheel action highlight the 2009 edition for Big-Block Modified racers.

A pair of holiday events at Canandaigua Speedway sandwich the Hall of Fame special at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, with cash bonuses and guaranteed starting spots on the line in this weekend to remember at DIRTcar Northeast’s charter member tracks.

All that is regular about the Big-Block Modified shows in Canandaigua on Saturday, May 23 and Monday, May 25 is the 35-lap feature race distance. The 18th Annual Hall of Fame Classic at Cayuga County on Sunday, May 24 has been lengthened to 50 laps with the winner now taking home a $3,000 top prize. A driver winning any two main events will earn a $1,000 bonus; better yet, sweep all three and tack on an additional $3,000 to walk away with a grand total of $9,000!

Already billed as the biggest motorsports event ever staged at Cayuga County, the latest addition to DIRTcar All-Star Weekend on July 17-19 will be the first-ever ‘All-Star Exemption Dash’ on Saturday, July 18. The Big-Block winners in Weedsport on May 24 and Canandaigua on May 25 will be the first All-Star Dash qualifiers, with the top-two finishers on July 18 automatically —without having to time trial or run a heat— locked into the pre-race draw for the inaugural $20,000-to-win ‘DIRTcar All-Star 100’ slated for Sunday, July 19.

Both May 24-25 Modified main events at Cayuga County and Canandaigua will not be handicapped by track points, with drivers drawing for heat race starting positions upon arrival and the top qualifiers re-drawing prior to the start of their respective feature.

The 2009 Modified Hall of Fame induction and special award ceremonies on the Cayuga County Fairgrounds kick off the Sunday agenda at 2 p.m. Activity moves over to the speedway at 6 p.m. for a full card of DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks and BattleKarz, with a special Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club exhibition leading up to the Big-Block finale.

Along with the Big-Block boys back in town Monday, Canandaigua also plays host to part one of the Wings & Warriors Tour 2009 at the ‘Land of Legends’ on Memorial Day. The nationally renowned World of Outlaws Sprint Car series returns to the popular Ontario County Fairgrounds oval for the first time since 1999, featuring appearances by all-time king of the outlaws Steve Kinser, three-time defending points champion Donny Schatz, and past Canandaigua winners Jac Haudenschild and Danny Lasoski.

Wings & Warriors round two will be held on Tuesday, June 23 when the World of Outlaws Late Model Series travels to wine country for its second annual appearance. Tickets remain on sale for both shows and can be purchased at the DIRTcar Racing Northeast Region office. Reserved seats are available for $35 (Sprints) and $30 (Late Models), while fans purchasing the $65 Wings & Warriors Tour advance reserved combo ticket package for the May 25/June 23 Outlaws shows will receive a pit pass to each event.
