Matt Sheppard

Matt Sheppard

Weedsport, NYOctober 28, 2010 – By Tom Skibinski, Super DIRTcar Series PR Director

Matt Sheppard, the current Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Championship Series points leader, will join “Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain” on SPEED at 9 p.m. ET Sunday, Oct. 31.

The Super DIRTcar Series returns to The Dirt Track at Charlotte later in the week, Nov. 4-6, for the first time since 2005. Sheppard enters the Big-Block portion of the Fourth Annual Lowes Foods World Finals Presented by Bimbo Bakeries and Tom’s Snacks with a 74-point lead over Jimmy Phelps in pursuit of his first Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified title.

As The Dirt Track at Charlotte readies for the final two tour point races, ‘Super Matt’ has already won six main events to improve his career total to 18, with 13 scored during the past two seasons. Accompanying extra-distance victories this year at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, Rolling Wheels Raceway Park, Brewerton Speedway, Mohawk Int’l Raceway and Merrittville Speedway in the Canadian province of Ontario, Sheppard collected a $10,000 payday in the DIRTcar All-Star100 finale at Cayuga County in July.

The second-generation standout from Waterloo, N.Y., ranks second in the 2010 series with five Bilstein Shocks Fast Times recorded in qualifying, has collected a half-dozen preliminary heat race wins and has more than doubled his closest challenger with 556 laps led in 11 of 19 main events.

Live via satellite, Sheppard will discuss the Big-Blocks debut during the upcoming Lowes Foods World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, look back at his past trips to the Tar Heel State, and comment on the most successful seasons of his career —including the past two— teamed with Jeff Brownell Sr. steering the JB Motorsports No. 9s Xtreme Lubricants/Bicknell entry.

The Modifieds return to Charlotte creates a titanic tripleheader that also includes World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series season finales. All the action is covered Saturday, Nov. 6, with the battle for the coveted Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar crown captured in a special four-hour broadcast seen across the country on SPEED TV beginning at 8 p.m.

It all kicks off this Sunday at 9 p.m. on Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain. Fans with a question or comment for Sheppard can e-mail the show at WindTunnel@SPEED.com.
