Billy Moyer, Jimmy Horton Win Alltel Volusia Finales, Now Fans Have Final Say In Alltel All-Star Online Contest

Barberville, FL — Billy Moyer and Jimmy Horton closed out the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals on Saturday night at Volusia Speedway Park with intense victories in front of packed grandstands.

Now it’s the fans’ turn in the spotlight. With $12,000 on the line, they need to vote for their favorite Alltel DIRTcar Nationals winner at AlltelAllStar.com. Voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on March 16, which is plenty of time to cast votes for any of the 18 different drivers who won a feature during the two-week kickoff to the 2008 racing season. Since the opening night of the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, drivers from 13 different states have earned victories.

Moyer, 50, of Batesville, Ark., capped off his impressive Alltel DIRTcar Nationals run on Saturday as the only three-time Dirt Late Model winner, which helped him earn the overall Alltel DIRTcar Nationals championship.

“I don’t know if any of those other guys involved in the Alltel All-Star contest have won as many races as we have this week,” said Moyer, 50, the 2005 World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion. “We can use it as much as anybody else can. Maybe everybody people out there listening on DIRTVision.com will give us a little shot in the arm, give us a little boost to shoot up there form the 3 percent we had.

“That ought to be a good reason to vote for me. We put it on three times this week against this kind of competition when nobody else done so. Hopefully they’ll push the button on the No. 21 a couple more times because of our performance down here.”

Horton, 51, of Neshanic Station, N.J., became the third driver from New Jersey to post a victory, joining fellow Advance Auto Parts Big Block Modified drivers Billy Pauch and Brett Hearn, who split the Big Block Modified event title. Now he’s looking for his fans’ support.

“Why not? That’s what we got to do, vote for me,” Horton said. “It’s a great promotion. I hope we get more of these. I thank Alltel for stepping up to the plate and helping out the Modifieds. To heck with the Late Models, we want the Modifieds to win.”

The voting at AlltelAllStar.com is open until 11:59 on March 16, and with one more night of racing includes:

Sprint Cars — Wayne Johnson, Mustang, Okla.; Craig Dollansky, Elk River, Minn.; Jason Meyers, Clovis, Calif.; Danny Lasoski, Dover, Mo.; and Donny Schatz, Fargo, N.D., a two-time winner during the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals.

UMP DIRTcar Modifieds — Jesse Stovall, Branson, Mo.; Scott Drake, Webb City, Mo.; Dave Hess Jr., Waterford, Pa.; Tim Hancock, Mount Olive, Ill.; Dave Groves, Morgantown, W.Va.; and two-time Alltel DIRTcar Nationals winner Jared Landers, Batesville, Ark.

Dirt Late Models — Two-time winner Billy Moyer, Batesville, Ark.; Josh Richards, Shinnston, W.Va.; and Clint Smith, Senoia, Ga.

Advance Auto Parts Big Block Modifieds — Billy Pauch, Frenchtown, N.J.; Brett Hearn, Sussex, N.J.; Dale Planck, Cortland, N.Y.; and Jimmy Horton, Neshanic Station, N.J.

The drivers have done everything they can do to win you over, now it’s up to you to decide who will win the title by voting online.

The 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals concluded Saturday night. The two-week event featured the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series™, the World of Outlaws Late Model Series™, the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series™, UMP DIRTcar Racing™ Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds, and the All Star Circuit of Champions. Each race night included two feature events that made a driver eligible to be an Alltel All-Star.
