Canandaigua Speedway Hosts Best Of World Racing Group In 2009

Canandaigua SpeedwayWeedsport, NYMay 23, 2009 – By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast PR Director

The World Racing Group continues to set the standard for the top three divisions in dirt short-track racing that traverse the nation today. Big-Block Modifieds, Sprint Cars and Late Models comprise the core series that are among the most popular from coast to coast.

Canandaigua Speedway is among an exclusive group —including Lernerville (Pa.) Speedway and Volusia (Fla.) Speedway Park— recognized around the entire country that holds bragging rights to this elite trio in 2009, with an all-star cast of drivers scheduled to open their act at the popular Ontario County Fairgrounds clay oval on Memorial Day.

The Empire State invasion begins Monday, May 25 when the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series reaches warp-speed in their first appearance of the new millennium on Canandaigua’s historic half-miler. Pennsylvanian Stevie Smith Jr. captured the last WoO Sprint Car A-Main held in 1999 while Ohioan Jac Haudenschild set the track record of 14.773 seconds (121.844 mph) in 1997.

The Advance Auto Parts tour-type Big-Block Modifieds join the winged machines over the holiday in a unique open-wheel, open-cockpit twin-bill. The 25-lap sprint feature winner stands to collect $10,000 while the mighty mod squad will be out in full force contending for a guaranteed starting spot in the first-ever ‘Exemption Dash’ that ultimately locks the top-two finishers in the $20,000-to-win ‘DIRTcar All-Star 100’ on July 19 at Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Round two of the inaugural “Wings & Warriors Tour” in Canandaigua arrives next month as the most prolific dirt track racers from the World of Outlaws Late Model Series make their second-ever visit to the ‘Land of Legends’ layout on June 23. BRP Late Models are slated to join the full-fender card in June to create one of the biggest Dirt Late Model shows in New York history.

Canandaigua www.canandaiguaspeedway.com pit gates will unlock at 2pm on Memorial Day and grandstands open at 4pm. Qualifying starts at 6:30pm and Big-Block Modified heats kick off at 7 o’clock. Reserved seats are available for $35 each, with adult general admission tickets $33, Senior’s (65+) $31, Students (10-14 yrs.) just $12 and kids 9 & under admitted free.

Fans that purchase the $65 Wings & Warriors Tour advance reserved combo ticket package for the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on May 25 and the World of Outlaws Late Models on June 23 will receive a pit pass to each event. That’s a savings of $80 over purchasing the same tickets on race day. Tickets can still be reserved at the DIRTcar Racing Northeast office by calling 315/834-6606.
