DIRTcar Racing UMP Weekly Points Update: Schlenk (Late Models) & Sweeney (Modifieds) Remain Atop National Standings

MARYVILLE, IL – April 29, 2010 – Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich. (Late Models) and Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky. (Modifieds) remained atop DIRTcar Racing’s UMP circuit national points standings after four weeks of weekly competition.

Schlenk, 23, is off to superb start in his bid for a first-ever UMP national title in the DIRTcar Late Model division. He was almost perfect last weekend, scoring a second-place finish on April 23 at Attica (Ohio) Raceway Park and then winning a feature on April 24 at Thunderbird Raceway in Muskegon, Mich.

A winner five times already in 2010, Schlenk pushed his early-season points lead to an impressive 214 points (883-669) over Jason McBride of Carbondale, Ill. He has made 12 UMP-sanctioned starts so far this season and has now led the national standings for two consecutive weeks.

The veteran Sweeney, meanwhile, saw his Modified points lead balloon to 154 points (919-765) over young Stormy Scott of Las Cruces, N.M., following a pair of consistent finishes last weekend. Sweeney placed third on April 22 at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway and fourth on April 23 at Soggy Bottom Raceway in Morgantown, Ky.

Scott did not make a UMP-sanctioned start last weekend, leaving him with 12 races under his belt this season versus Sweeney’s 15.

For the second straight week there was no change at the top of the national standings in UMP’s six other divisions. Points leaders remained Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky. (Pro Late Models), Jimmy Cummins of Waterloo, Ill. (Sportsman), Shane Hebert of Lafayette, La. (Limited Modifieds), Trevor Gamble of DeLeon Springs, Fla. (Stock Cars), Scott Mooers of Osteen, Fla. (Factory Stocks) and Michael Rittenberry of Clarksville, Tenn. (Sport Compacts).
