I-55 Raceway Northern Allstar Late Model Series Results 5/30/09

Pevely, MO (May 30, 2009) Randy Korte of Highland, Illinois claimed the $5,000 to win Northern Allstar Late Model Series Tri-Track Challenge event at I-55 Raceway. It was Korte’s fourth win of the 2009 racing season at I-55 Raceway in the Super Late Model division. Korte also has a win in the UMP Modified division this season at I-55 Raceway.
Billy Moyer got the night started by setting fast time during qualifying as he beat out all forty competitors with a lap time of 14.172 seconds around the 1/3 mile high banked dirt oval. Heat race competition saw Frank Heckenast, Jr. beat out Moyer for the victory in the first heat. The two raced side-by-side for nearly the entire ten lap event. The second heat saw Rodney Melvin take the victory. Melvin worked his way past pole sitter Shannon Babb to take over the second spot early and then he slipped into the lead when early leader Jeff Johns pushed high in turns three and four in the closing laps. Randy Korte outlasted Tim Manville to take the win in the third heat race. Bryan Collins checked out in the fourth heat race enroute to victory over Bill Frye. Jeff Johns rallied back to win the first semi-feature event over Brian Shirley. Billy Faust claimed the second semi-feature over Jason Frankel.

In the main event, it was completely the Randy Korte show. Korte took the lead from the pole position and literally checked out on the rest of the competitors until the caution waved on lap thirteen. Meanwhile, Billy Moyer had moved into the third position by this point. On the restart, Korte once again checked out but the caution would fly just five laps later. Moyer had now taken over the second position to setup a battle for the lead. However, Korte continued to prove to be too strong as Moyer could stay within a couple of car lengths of Korte, but could not mount a serious threat for the lead. Korte would pick up the victory with Moyer finishing second. Bill Frye would take the third spot with Dennis Erb, Jr. finishing fourth. Jason Feger made a great run through the field after starting ninteenth to finish fifth.
