Jon Henry claims 2009 Sunoco ALMS Championship!

Rossburg, OH (October 11, 2009) Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio claimed the Sunoco American Late Model Series Championship as he held on to top Brian Ruhlman by a slim twelve point margin. The event for the Sunoco American Late Model Series was Saturday, October 10th at the UMP DIRTcar Fall Nationals at Eldora Speedway and Henry came into the final event with a 33 point lead over Ruhlman. With a big field of 56 cars on hand for the series finale, both drivers had their work cut out for them. Henry would suffer mechanical problems in the final event and settled for a 22nd place finish, leaving the door open for Ruhlman. Ruhlman would of needed a third place or better finish to take the Championship. Ruhlman gave it a valiant effort but could only get a sixth place finish and had to settle for the runner-up position in the Championship chase.

Jon Henry used four victories along with consistent finishes in the Sunoco American Late Model Series to secure the Championship. Henry also claimed the 2009 Sunoco American Late Model Series Rookie of the Year Title. Becoming the first driver in Sunoco American Late Model Series history to claim both titles in the same season. Henry truly lived up to his nickname “The Steel Driver” as he endured the difficult 2009 Sunoco American Late Model Series schedule to earn the titles.
