Sell Wins The Battle Glaser Wins The War

By Ben Deatherage

Lebanon, Oregon- He is referenced to as “Catfish” but as he said in his post race interview a catfish has to come up for air sometime.  Cody Sell of Shedd dominated the field by railing around the 1/3-mile oval of Willamette Speedway in the DIRTcar Super Late Model feature on Saturday September 22nd.

Sell would pilot the Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sale and Service Center #44 Swartz to the lead on lap seventeen after a brief battle with then leader Rob Mayea.  Cody then would pace the field through heavy lapped traffic to lead the rest of the way.  Only one caution occurred, taking place on lap six, so the race was practically non-stop.

Steve Moore of Scio managed to earn the initial lead in his Xtreme Motorsports/Schram Brothers Excavating #21 Mastersbilt but would only lead the first circuit.  Moore would get railed on the high side by Rob Mayea who would seize the lead on lap two.

The Bend driver would set a wicked pace in his J&S Farms/Cornett Racing Engines #37 Victory Circle mount but would be held up with lapped traffic utilizing his line.  This allowed Sell to close up the gap and make the eventual pass that was aforementioned.  As Sell continued forward it was Mayea that was battling back challengers to main second place.

One of those challengers included Trevor Glaser from nearby Tangent.  Glaser, who started thirteenth, tried to get something going down low but was unable to complete the pass coming out of the corners.

As the laps continued to click away both John Campos from Keizer and Salem’s Jeremy Shank were up front battling Mayea and Glaser.  Shank would slip his Left Coast Motorsports/South Pacific Auto Sales and Service Center #30 Swartz machine into second place towards the very end.

Shank would finish in the runner-up position while Trevor Glaser finished third in the Mid-Valley Farms/Crop Production Services #2 Trak-Star at the start/finish line.  Falling just inches short of a podium finish was the Heppner Chiropractic/Harold’s Quality Auto Repair #36 X-Factor of John Campos who would be scored fourth.  Completing the top five was Rob Mayea from central Oregon.

Trevor Glaser put up the fastest time in time trials with a clock in of 14.341 seconds.  Jeremy Shank was the victor in trophy dash action which featured the four fastest qualifiers.  Heat races were won by the Footwear Express #U2 Rocket from Salem Bruce Hipple, hometown driver Tony Brakeall driving his Sure Flow Concrete Pumping/Bowtie Performance Restoration Services #13 Swartz, John Campos, and the Elite Cabinets Plus/Don Frank Flooring #24W Rocket of Rick Wyatt from Aumsville.

Two fifteen lap consolation races were ran with the top three in each of them transferring to the feature.  Brady Sell of Salem in his Left Coast Motorsports/106.3 KLOO Timeless Rock #4 Swartz was the winner in the first race and Tony Brakeall the other.  Trevor Glaser was crowned the 2012 DIRTcar Super Late Model champion for his sixth title in eight seasons at the historic venue.
