Four drivers gained valuable momentum toward Saturday’s Features at the seventh annual World Short Track Championship at the Dirt Track at Charlotte.
Seth Speed, Carl Currin, Gavin Cowan, and Daniel Parker each won Chevrolet Performance 602 Late Model Heat Races, putting themselves on a path toward victory.
HEAT RACE 1
Seth Speed grabbed the lead on Lap 1 of his Heat Race and never looked back, earning the wire-to-wire victory.
Speed, from Clayton, GA, went untouched after pulling away from Brian Carter in Turn 1 to earn the six-lap win.
Jordan Koehler finished second, Chuckie Duncan third, and Austin Mintz got the final transfer spot after moving six positions from tenth.
HEAT RACE 2
Like Speed, Carl Currin also dominated his 602 Late Model Heat Race, leading all six laps to the checkered flag.
Currin, from Fayetteville, NC, led a group of four North Carolina drivers across the finish line, with Chris Joyce, from Walnut Cove, NC finishing second, Tyler Payne, from Fayetteville, NC, finishing third, and Justin Taylor, from King, NC finishing fourth.
HEAT RACE 3
Gavin Cowan found the outside lane in his quest toward a 602 Late Model Heat Race win, taking the lead on Lap 2 and never looking back.
The Rincon, GA driver, quickly used the top lane to drive past AJ Belanger in Turn 2 and put distance between himself and the rest of the field.
Belanger held on to finish second, Cole Hedrick third, and Brady Cornett fourth.
HEAT RACE 4
The fourth and final 602 Late Model Heat Race saw Evan Koehler take the early lead until Daniel Parker powered around the outside of him on Lap 3.
From there, Parker, from Raeford, NC, went unchallenged to win 602 Late Model Heat Race four.
Koehler settled for second, while Baron McDowell and Preston Dimsdale grabbed the final transfer spots.
