UMP DIRT Racing National Points Update: Hot Feger Grabs Super Late Model Points Lead, Cook Maintains Modified Edge

Maryville, IL — With one sizzling summer weekend, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., ascended to the top of the UMP DIRTcar Racing national Super Late Model points standings.

Feger, 31, won three times in as many UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned starts last weekend, allowing him to overtake two-time defending national champion Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., for the lead in the points standings released on Thursday by organization officials.

In races run through Aug. 10, Feger holds a 14-point lead (2,737-2,723) over Erb. Feger is seeking his first career UMP DIRTcar national Super Late Model title.

Feger caught fire last weekend, winning O’Reilly MARS DIRTcar Series events co-sanctioned by UMP DIRTcar on Aug. 7 at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill., and Aug. 8 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., and a weekly UMP DIRTcar A-Main on Aug. 9 at Shepp’s Speedway in Alexander, Ill. The outburst, which included Feger’s first-ever MARS victories, left him with 12 UMP DIRTcar feature wins this season; only Steve Sheppard Jr. of New Berlin, Ill., has more wins, with 13.

Erb, meanwhile, raced only once last weekend, finishing fifth on Aug. 8 at Fairbury (Ill.) American Legion Speedway.

Gary Cook Jr. of Deer Creek, Ill., continued to pace the UMP DIRTcar national Modified points standings. He enters this weekend’s action holding an 83-point advantage (2,337-2,254) over Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky.

Other UMP DIRTcar national points leaders through Aug. 10 included Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky. (Pro Late Models), Jimmy Cummins of Waterloo, Ill. (Sportsman), Chad Boone of Owensboro, Ky. (Limited Modifieds), Rick Thomas of Koehler, Ill. (Stock Cars), Bill May of Muskegon, Mich. (Factory Stocks) and Bob Zbinden of Alhambra, Ill. (Sport Compacts).
