UMP DIRTcar Racing Accelerates Four Compound Tire Rule to Volusia

Concord, NC — UMP DIRTcar Racing will accelerate its plan to reintroduce two additional tire compounds into the Super Late Model division beginning with the 37th Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park .

Beginning next week at the half-mile speedway in Barberville , Fla. , and continuing throughout the season, the LM 10 and LM 30 tire compounds will return to competition, joining the LM 20 and LM 40. For the previous few years, only the LM 20 and LM 40 were approved.
After discussions during the past four months, with participants, car owners and track operators, UMP DIRTcar Racing had planned to return to a four tire compound option at the start of the regular season in April 2008. However, concerns about aggressive attempts to manipulate compounds by a small number of professional teams at Golden Isles Speedway this week have accelerated the plan to begin at the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals. UMP DIRTcar Racing officials have coordinated with Hoosier Racing Tire to ship the additional compounds for use in both the UMP DIRTcar Super Late Model nights and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series events at Volusia Speedway Park.

In addition, Hoosier will have a tire exchange program in place only at Volusia Speedway Park during the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals for competitors who wish to switch unused tires. Tires will be available on Mon., Feb. 11, at the speedway.

The UMP DIRTcar Super Late Models return to action Mon., Feb. 11, in the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park near Daytona Beach , Fla. The Alltel DIRTcar Nationals begins Feb. 5 and features 12 consecutive nights of racing, showcasing 410 Sprint Cars, Big Block Modifieds, Super Late Models and UMP DIRTcar Open-wheel Modifieds.
