UMP DIRTcar Racing National Points Update: Schlenk Keeps Super Late Model Lead, Kent Robinson Moves Atop Modified Standings

Grayville, IL — Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich. (Super Late Models) and Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ill. (Modifieds) enter the final weekend of May sitting atop the UMP DIRTcar Racing national points standings in their respective divisions.

Schlenk continued to lead the Super Late Model points battle despite experiencing a relatively quiet Memorial Day Weekend on the Midwest’s dirt tracks. He entered three American Late Model Series events, finishing ninth on May 22 at Mount Pleasant (Mich.) Speedway; 14th on May 23 at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio (driving the Wagner No. 83 after he rolled his Lawrence Motorsports No. 11 during hot laps); and eighth on May 24 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio.

Schlenk’s points lead did shrink from 54 points to 34 points. He rolls into this weekend’s action leading Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio, who also ran the ALMS tripleheader with finishes of third at Mount Pleasant, second at Oakshade and 15th at Eldora (after hitting the wall during his heat and using a provisional to start the feature).

The 21-year-old Robinson, meanwhile, overtook Randle Sweeney of Clifty, Ky., for the Modified division’s national points lead. Robinson’s victory on May 22 at Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway and a second-place finish on May 23 at Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, Ind., trumped Sweeney’s triumph on May 23 at Western Kentucky Speedway in Nebo, Ky.

Robinson enters this weekend’s racing schedule holding a slim four-point lead (1,013-1,009) over Todd Sherman of Churubusco, Ind., who vaulted from seventh to second in the standings after running five features (with one win) over Memorial Day Weekend.

In other UMP DIRTcar divisional points races, national points leaders through May 27 include Tait Davenport of West Paducah, Ky. (Pro Late Models), Troy Clark of North Vernon, Ind. (Sportsman), Chad Boone of Owensboro, Ky. (Limited Modifieds), Chris Fisher of Bluff Point, N.Y. (Stock Cars), Bill May of Muskegon, Mich. (Factory Stocks) and Bob Zbinden of Alhambra, Ill. (4-Cylinders). Zbinden was the only new points leader after the holiday weekend activity.

All drivers are reminded that they must have a valid DIRTcar Racing membership by June 16 to be eligible to earn points for the remainder of the season. Visit www.DIRTcarmembers.com for more information about the benefits of a DIRTcar Racing membership.
