Brian Ruhlman Wins Third Feature Of The Season / Jonathan Taylor Clinches Track Title By A Single Point

DIRTcar Modifieds end the 2018 season at Eldora Speedway

ROSSBURG, OH — Oct. 14, 2018 — The DIRTcar Modifieds were a part of “Last Call For Them All” at Eldora Speedway (OH) on Sunday, October 14. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series headlined what was the third and final day of the “Best Of Both Worlds” race weekend at the ½ (0.500) mile high-banked dirt oval as over the previous two days, the DIRTcar Super Late Models were racing in the rescheduled 48th annual World 100.

As for the final day of the weekend at the track located east of the Indiana/Ohio state line in Rossburg, OH, the DIRTcar Modifieds were also deciding their 2018 Track Champion and it would be Jonathan Taylor taking advantage of points leader, Jacob Hawkins’ misfortune with two laps to go while leading. Taylor finished third and clinched the 2018 Track Championship by just a single point over Hawkins who limped home in 12th.

In the Feature, Brian Ruhlman, who started last (19th) inherited the lead after Hawkins and the second-place car of Josh Morton slammed into a stalled car in turn three, damaging both machines. This gave the lead to Ruhlman who made no mistake in winning his third Feature of the year in his #49 Ruhlman Racecars / Rocket by Ruhlman / Rhyne Competition Engines entry.

Brian Gray and Scott Williams led the field to the Green Flag to start the 20-Lap Season Championship Feature for the DIRTcar Modifieds. After a caution before a lap was completed, the field restarted with Gray taking the early lead. Hawkins, who started seventh, worked his way up to second and began challenging Gray for the race lead. On lap 12, Hawkins grabbed the lead and brought Josh Morton with him.

With two laps to go, a stalled car in turn three was in the direct path of the race leaders who had nowhere to go and slammed into the side of the car, damaging both machines. Ruhlman would take over the top spot and made no mistake the rest of the way to give the 48-year-old veteran from Clarklake, MI his third Feature Win of the season at Eldora and milestone 40th of his career at Eldora, in a Modified. Which is good for the all-time lead.

Gray finished second over Jonathan Taylor who clinched his first career Track Championship with the final podium finishing position. His brother, Evan Taylor was fourth over Williams who completed the top five. Dylan Woodling was sixth from 12th as Weasel Philpot, 2016 Track Champion, Jeff Koz from 14th, Mike Hohlbein from 17th and Joel Dick wrapped up the top 10.

The 2018 racing season has concluded at Eldora Speedway. Congratulations to the 2018 Track Champions: Devin Gilpin-Late Models, Jonathan Taylor-Modifieds and Gary Rahe Jr.-Stocks Cars.
