Kenny Wallace Sees Red At Volusia Speedway Park

2009 DIRTcar NationalsBarberville,FL —  Jan. 22, 2009 — From asphalt to the monstrous dirt half-mile at Volusia Speedway Park, veteran NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series driver Kenny Wallace scored his first victory at Volusia’s dirt track during opening night of the 36th Annual DIRTcar Nationals By UNOH on Feb. 6, 2007.

Making his way to Victory Lane, the Missouri native paid homage to his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, sporting a red and white paint scheme on his No.36 Modified while enjoying a celebratory phone call with fellow Missouri native and NASCAR driver Kenny Schrader.

Known for his animated and rowdy demeanor, The Hermanator let loose on opening night winning his respective heat race, starting off the night’s A-main in the front row. From there, Wallace took full advantage of his initial start, pacing the 49 car field for the entire 20 laps up until the checkered flag waved. “It’s so much fun racing on dirt,” said Wallace in Victory Lane. “With the Cup and Busch Series, the cars are so fast, there’s not much you can do. You’re just along for the ride. But on dirt, you gotta drive it, and that’s fun.”

With just 12 days remaining before the green flag drops Feb. 3 on the 38th annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals presented by UNOH, dirt fanatics from around the country will be cheering on Wallace and the remaining UMP Modified drivers as they look to tame the half-mile terror and capture the inaugural Gator Championship.
