Landers Joins Volusia Win List, Schatz Strengthens Bid As Both Engage Fans In Alltel All-Star Online Contest

Barberville, FL — Jared Landers raced onto the list of those hoping to be crowned the inaugural Alltel All-Star at the 37th Annual Alltel DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park, while Donny Schatz solidified his lead in the fan voting on Thursday by capturing his second checkered flag in three nights.

Now their fans need to visit AlltelAllStar.com and select their favorite DIRTcar Nationals winner or text their driver’s letter code to 52191. The winning Alltel All-Star receives a $12,000 cash prize.

After consecutive top-10s in the first two rounds of UMP DIRTcar Modified action at the Alltel DIRTcar Nationals, Landers, of Batesville , Ark. , broke through in dominating fashion for a victory in Round 3 on Thursday night that qualified him as an Alltel All-Star.

Meanwhile, Schatz, of Fargo , N.D. , started on the pole in his Tony Stewart Racing Armor All Sprint Car and powered to his second victory of the 12-night event. After winning on opening night Tuesday, Schatz was leading the Alltel All-Star voting at AlltelAllStar.com before pulling into Victory Lane again on Thursday night.

Landers joins fellow UMP DIRTcar Modified winners Jesse Stovall and Scott Drake, as well as Sprint Car drivers Wayne Johnson and Schatz, as drivers eligible to win the Alltel All-Star contest. It’s up to the fans to decide by voting online or through text messages who will win the $12,000 cash prize from Alltel Wireless for being crowned the inaugural Alltel All-Star.

Drivers eligible for the Alltel All-Star contest (and their letter codes) are Jesse Stovall of Branson, Mo. (A); Donny Schatz of Fargo, N.D. (B); Scott Drake of Webb City, Mo. (C); Wayne Johnson, of Mustang, Okla. (D); and Jared Landers, of Batesville, Ark. (E). Voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 16. The winning driver will be named in a special ceremony shortly thereafter.

“I’d be glad to have your vote,” said Landers, who then considered an attempt at a high profile endorsement from a fellow Batesville native and NASCAR superstar. “Maybe I’ll try to get Mark Martin to help me get people to vote.”

Schatz is hoping the more he wins the more fans will cast a ballot for him.

“I’m just glad to be a part of it and glad to be in Alltel Wireless Victory Lane ,” said Schatz, the two-time and defending Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion. “It’s great to have Alltel’s support and I hope the fans go to AlltelAllStar.com and vote.”
